Owners consistently praise its luxurious comfort, great safety features, intuitive technology, smooth driving experience, and attractive design. What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Volvo XC60?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is described as clean, serene, and near-luxury, with beautifully executed paint, chrome, and trim. Top trims can add larger alloy wheels, and the safety equipment is broadly strong across the range, but you should check whether the specific trim includes the comfort and convenience features you want.
• Powertrain: The XC60 uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and all models in Canada use AWD. T5, T6, T8, and T8 Polestar Engineered versions differ significantly in output and character, so make sure the powertrain matches how you drive.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes blind-spot monitoring with steering assist, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic emergency braking, collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping aid, run-off road protection, run-off road mitigation, and a rear park assist camera. Pilot Assist is available, and you should confirm whether the trim you are considering includes it.
• Infotainment: The XC60 uses Volvo’s Sensus system with a 9-inch portrait-style touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are built in, but the system has a learning curve, so test it carefully before you buy.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada figures range from 11.1 L/100 km city, 8.3 L/100 km highway, and 9.9 L/100 km combined for the T5 to 9.3 L/100 km combined for the T8 PHEV and 4.0 Le/100 km combined in electric-only mode.

Which 2021 Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Volvo XC60 is offered in 6 trim levels: T5 Momentum, T6, R-Design, Inscription, XC60 Recharge T8 eAWD Inscription Expression, and XC60 T8 eAWD Polestar Engineered.

Here's the short version:

• T5 Momentum: This is the entry point and the best-value choice if you want the XC60’s core luxury, safety, and Scandinavian design without paying for extra power or prestige features.
• T6: This trim adds the stronger T6 powertrain, making it the better pick if you want more performance while staying in the mainstream part of the lineup.
• R-Design: Choose this if you want a sportier look and a more expressive feel, with the T6 powertrain as standard.
• Inscription: This is the more upscale comfort-focused choice, and it suits you if you want the most polished luxury presentation with the T6 powertrain.
• XC60 Recharge T8 eAWD Inscription Expression: This is the plug-in hybrid entry point, and it makes sense if you want electric driving capability with a more accessible starting price than the higher T8 trims.
• XC60 T8 eAWD Polestar Engineered: This is the most potent and most distinctive version, aimed at buyers who want the strongest performance and the most exclusive character in the range.

The XC60’s safety equipment is a major strength across the lineup, and the available Pilot Assist system is worth seeking out if you want more advanced driver assistance.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Volvo XC60?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 158 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.18% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $30,593 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Volvo XC60's resale value?

The current average of $30,666 CAD sits slightly below last year's $37,029 CAD.

That price movement suggests the XC60 has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it easier to attract interest if you price yours competitively later. A softer market today may also mean future sellers need to be realistic about condition, mileage, and equipment to stand out.

Because the model has broad appeal through its comfort, safety, and premium image, well-kept examples should still draw attention from shoppers looking for a refined luxury crossover. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Volvo XC60 safe?

The 2021 Volvo XC60 was awarded a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and the XC60 T5 AWD and XC60 T6 AWD received five-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes LED headlights, blind-spot monitoring with steering assist, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic emergency braking, collision avoidance, low- and high-speed collision mitigation, vehicle/cyclist/large animal detection, driver alert control, run-off road protection, run-off road mitigation, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping aid, oncoming mitigation, front, side, and curtain airbags with driver-side knee airbag, whiplash protection system in front seats, slippery road/hazard light alert, rear park assist camera, and power child locks on the rear doors.

Pilot Assist is available, and it combines adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist to help maintain speed and position. Volvo also limits the top speed to 180 kilometres per hour for safety reasons.

Should I buy a 2021 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.18% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines luxury-level appointments, exceptional safety features, and a lusty powertrain.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $34,939 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $30,666 CAD average.
• It adds new powertrains and an Android-based infotainment system.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better starting point if you want strong value, proven safety, and a lower entry price. If you are willing to spend more for newer tech and updated powertrain choices, the 2022 is the better alternative.
