Is the 2021 Audi Q5 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Audi Q5 earns a 4.75/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

The Q5’s appeal is rooted in its premium compact-SUV positioning, with a polished cabin, strong fit and finish, and a clear emphasis on electrification for this model year. The plug-in hybrid setup adds a more distinctive use case for shoppers who want a luxury SUV that can also run on battery power for short trips and commuting. 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2021 Audi Q5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Q5’s second-generation platform and premium build quality support its reputation for being a well-sorted luxury SUV. Its electrified powertrain adds complexity, but the expert assessment points to a cohesive package with strong efficiency, good driving manners, and a high-quality cabin. The performance content also highlights a well-integrated hybrid system that can switch between electric-only, reserve, and hybrid operation, which is the kind of flexibility that can help the vehicle feel easy to live with day to day.

The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is the added complexity of the plug-in hybrid system, so you’ll want a careful inspection of charging behaviour, battery operation, and service history before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Audi Q5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The plug-in hybrid model wears S-Line trim pieces and enhancements, with standard 19-inch wheels and optional 20-inch wheels. The cabin is upscale and modern, with a 10.1-inch touchscreen and standard leather upholstery on seating surfaces throughout.
• Powertrain: The plug-in hybrid pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a 14.1-kWh battery. It produces 362 hp and 373 lb-ft of torque, with up to 31 kilometres of battery-only driving depending on state of charge.
• Safety package: Audi Pre Sense front, Audi Side Assist with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go and traffic congestion assist, traffic-sign recognition, Audi active lane assist, and hands-on detection are available. Some of these systems may not be present on every trim.
• Infotainment: You get Audi’s MMI 10.1-inch touchscreen, the Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus 12.3-inch HD instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, and OTA-style convenience through the latest interface experience is not stated.
• Fuel efficiency: The plug-in hybrid is rated at 4.7 litres-equivalent per 100 kilometres combined, and 8.8 litres per 100 kilometres combined in gasoline-only mode.

Which 2021 Audi Q5 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Audi Q5 is offered in 2 trim levels: Progressiv and Technik.

Here's the short version:

• Technik: Choose this if you want the most fully equipped version and are willing to pay more for it. It suits you best if you value the richest tech and convenience experience in the range.

The safety package includes Audi Pre Sense front, Audi Side Assist with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go and traffic congestion assist, traffic-sign recognition, Audi active lane assist, and hands-on detection.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Audi Q5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 214 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.10% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,724 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Audi Q5's resale value?

The current average of $27,727 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,907 CAD.

That softer pricing trend suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can make it harder for a future seller to command a premium unless the vehicle is especially well kept or well equipped. For you, that means resale value will likely depend heavily on condition, mileage, and whether the plug-in hybrid system has been maintained properly. The current market also shows that shoppers are still willing to consider this model, which helps support future demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Audi Q5 safe?

The 2021 Q5 hasn’t been rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) yet, but the 2020 Q5 received top “good” ratings in every category except headlights, where it received a “marginal” rating. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the 2021 Audi Q5 gasoline model five stars but has not yet rated the PHEV.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Safety features include six airbags, an anti-lock braking system with brake assist, low-speed collision assist, power child safety locks in the rear doors, electronic stability control with off-road mode, electronic vehicle immobilization, anti-theft alarm, interior motion sensor, LED daytime running lights and LED taillights, LATCH connectors on outboard rear seats, a rearview camera, and a tire-pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Available driver-assistance features include Audi Pre Sense front, Audi Side Assist with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go and traffic congestion assist, traffic-sign recognition, Audi active lane assist, and hands-on detection to ensure you’re actively driving while using these additional systems.

Should I buy a 2021 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Audi’s electrification push is a defining part of this year, and the Q5 continues to offer a plug-in hybrid option that fits that strategy.

The bottom line: If you want the most distinctive version of this generation’s Q5, the 2021 model is the one to target because its plug-in hybrid setup gives it a clearer identity than nearby years. If your priority is simply finding the best price, you may want to compare listings carefully and focus on the cleanest, best-priced example rather than chasing a specific year badge.
