What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Sienna?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE is the most basic version, and the feature spread grows from there with XLE, XSE, and Limited. The LE uses 17-inch wheels, while higher trims add larger wheels and more upscale equipment, so you should check whether the lower trim you’re considering has the convenience and comfort features you want.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid setup with two electric motors making 243 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available on all trim levels, with the rear axle driven by a separate electric motor.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on all trim levels and includes full-speed range dynamic radar adaptive cruise control, lane-tracing assist, pre-collision system with bicyclist and pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. Blind spot monitoring, the Star Safety System, 10 airbags, and TPMS are also standard.
• Infotainment: A nine-inch touchscreen is standard, along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity. Wireless charging is not standard across the range, and the rear-seat entertainment system and premium audio are reserved for higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: FWD models are rated at 6.6 L/100 km in city driving, 6.5 on the highway, and 6.5 combined. AWD models are rated at 6.8 city, 6.6 highway, and 6.7 combined.

Which 2021 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Sienna is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the value-focused choice if you want the hybrid Sienna at the lowest entry point. It still gives you the standard nine-inch touchscreen, Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, blind spot monitoring, and the practical cabin layout, but it is the trim where you’ll notice the most feature gaps versus the higher grades.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale ownership experience without jumping all the way to the top of the range. It also brings Toyota’s connected services trial and the Smart Key System, making it a sensible middle ground for families who want more convenience.
• XSE: This trim leans more stylish and tech-forward, with available Technology Package content that adds Qi-compatible charging and a digital rearview mirror. It’s a good fit if you want a more feature-rich Sienna without moving into Limited pricing.
• Limited: This is the most fully equipped version, with standard Qi-compatible charging, a 1500-watt inverter, a 7-inch multi-information display, premium JBL audio, and standard rear-seat entertainment. It suits you best if you want the most comfort and technology in one package.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, blind spot monitoring, the Star Safety System, and 10 airbags are standard across the range.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Sienna?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 26.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 126 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.48% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $41,605 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Sienna's resale value?

The current average of $41,821 CAD sits slightly below last year's $46,720 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if values continue to ease. The current trend suggests the Sienna is not in a rapid appreciation phase, so resale gains are likely to depend more on condition, mileage, and trim desirability than on market momentum alone. Well-equipped versions and clean service histories should hold up better than stripped-down examples.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Sienna safe?

The 2021 Toyota Sienna earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, though it gets four-star ratings for overall front and rollover resistance.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on all trim levels and includes full-speed range dynamic radar adaptive cruise control, lane-tracing assist, pre-collision system with bicyclist and pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. The Star Safety System, blind spot monitoring, 10 airbags, TPMS, and LATCH anchors are also standard.

One useful detail for used shoppers: the LE grade is the only trim that can still be found with a spare tire, while other models use an inflator kit.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 26.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.48% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It introduces the standard hybrid powertrain and a major redesign.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $34,062 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $41,821 CAD average.
• It offers all-wheel drive and strong practicality.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $47,378 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $41,821 CAD average.
• It carries the redesigned hybrid formula forward unchanged.

The bottom line: If you want the most important Sienna change — the standard hybrid redesign — the 2021 is the sweet spot. If price matters most, the 2020 can save you money, while the 2022 makes sense if you want the same formula and are comfortable paying more for a newer model year.
