Is the 2021 Honda Odyssey a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Honda Odyssey earns 4.8/5 from owners and 7.83/10 from our experts. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its space, safety features, and family-friendly usefulness, while also liking its drivability. That lines up with the Odyssey’s role as a family-focused minivan built to make daily life easier, whether you care most about cargo room, passenger loading, or reducing hassle on the road. It also remains a competitive choice in a segment where practicality matters most.

Is the 2021 Honda Odyssey reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The expert assessment also describes the Odyssey as a practical, easy-to-live-with minivan with smooth power delivery and a generally pleasing driving experience. Honda also says the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about basic dependability and more about whether the van’s family-focused equipment and wear items have been kept in good shape.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Odyssey?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The trim walk starts with EX-RES, then EX-L Navi, EX-L RES, and Touring. Standard LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation are on every trim, while the Touring adds a more upscale look with perforated leather upholstery, contrast stitching and piping, dashboard ambient lighting, and new 19-inch wheels. The Touring is the best-value choice if you want the richest feature set.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-litre V6 with a 10-speed automatic and front-wheel drive only. It delivers smooth, effortless power, uses variable cylinder management to help conserve fuel, and includes Normal, Sport, Eco, and Snow drive modes.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, pedestrian braking, road-sign recognition, and a dashboard menu button for ADAS settings. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic warning is reserved for the Touring trim.
• Infotainment: The Odyssey uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, satellite radio, HD Radio, text-messaging support, basic HondaLink connectivity, and the Cabin Control smartphone app. EX-L Navi and Touring add navigation, while Touring also gets CabinWatch, CabinTalk, an 11-speaker premium audio system, wireless smartphone charging, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says it should use 10.6 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test loop returned 10.8 L/100 km.

Which 2021 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?

The 2021 Honda Odyssey is offered in 4 trim levels: EX-RES, EX-L Navi, EX-L RES, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• EX-RES: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core Odyssey family formula, including standard LED headlights, Honda Sensing, and the rear-seat entertainment system. It makes sense if you want the basics without stretching for extras.
• EX-L Navi: This trim adds navigation and keeps the Odyssey’s family-friendly equipment set intact. It is a sensible step up if you want built-in route guidance without moving all the way to the top trim.
• EX-L RES: Choose this if you want the rear-seat entertainment system and a more complete family-hauling setup, but do not need the Touring’s extra luxury and convenience features.
• Touring: This is the most complete version, with the 19-inch wheels, perforated leather upholstery, ambient lighting, CabinWatch, CabinTalk, wireless charging, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and the premium audio system. It is the best-value trim if you want the fullest feature set.

For safety, note that blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic warning is only included on the Touring trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Odyssey?

This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you have room to shop carefully rather than rush.

• Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 88 listings available.

Is the 2021 Honda Odyssey safe?

The 2021 Honda Odyssey should once again earn a Top Safety Pick recommendation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA crash test assessment aside from rollover resistance, for which it earns a four-star score.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and now includes low-speed follow capability for adaptive cruise control, pedestrian braking, road-sign recognition, and a dashboard menu button for quick access to ADAS settings. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic warning is still limited to the Touring trim.

One caveat is that the ADAS can feel a bit abrupt in operation, especially the adaptive cruise control and lane-departure warning responses.

Should I buy a 2021 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds improved safety, upgraded technology, and refreshed styling.

Consider the 2022 if:

• Honda makes no changes, so you are mainly comparing availability and price.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better pick if you want the refreshed safety and tech updates without moving to a newer model year. If you are price-sensitive, the 2022 is worth a look only when its asking price is close enough to justify the lack of meaningful changes.
