Is the 2021 Toyota Sienna a good car?

Generally — the 2021 Toyota Sienna earns a 4.3/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Technology.

In practical terms, that lines up well with the Sienna’s family-hauler mission: you’re looking at a minivan built for space, efficiency, and comfort rather than flash.

With 28.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Toyota Sienna reliable?

The user feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, especially those who value the Sienna’s long-term usefulness, roomy cabin, and efficient hybrid setup. The expert assessment also describes the engine, motor, and battery combination as proven, which supports confidence in the powertrain’s durability.

Toyota’s hybrid system is a major part of the appeal here, and the model’s warranty coverage adds another layer of reassurance for used buyers. The main ownership risk is that some shoppers have noted acceleration and interior-material concerns, so you should inspect condition and service history carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Sienna?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE is the most basic version, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience features. The LE is also the only grade that can still be found with a spare tyre, which may matter if you want that extra roadside backup.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid setup with two electric motors, standard FWD, and available AWD on all trim levels. The CVT helps efficiency, but it can blunt throttle response.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes full-speed range dynamic radar adaptive cruise control, lane-tracing assist, pre-collision system with bicyclist and pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. Blind spot monitoring is also standard across the board.
• Infotainment: A nine-inch touchscreen is standard, along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and USB ports throughout the cabin. Higher trims add more audio and rear-seat entertainment features.
• Fuel efficiency: FWD models are rated at 6.6 L/100 km in city driving, 6.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 6.5 L/100 km combined. AWD models are rated at 6.8 L/100 km city, 6.6 L/100 km highway, and 6.7 L/100 km combined.

Which 2021 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Sienna is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the value-focused choice if you want the Sienna’s core hybrid efficiency, standard safety tech, and the lowest entry point. It’s the trim to start with if you care most about practicality and price.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience while staying below the sportier and more expensive upper trims. It also brings additional connected services.
• XSE: This trim adds a more distinctive look and can be paired with the Technology Package, which brings extra convenience and tech features. It suits you if you want a more upscale feel without jumping straight to the top trim.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich version, with the strongest tech and comfort content, including the premium audio setup and rear-seat entertainment. It makes the most sense if you want the most complete Sienna experience.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 and blind spot monitoring are standard across all trim levels.

• Deal availability: 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 131 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.33% compared with last year.

What is the 2021 Toyota Sienna's resale value?

The current average of $41,550 CAD sits slightly below last year's $46,339 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive resale environment if the market stays loose. The good news is that the Sienna’s strong efficiency story and family-friendly reputation should continue to support demand. If you keep the vehicle in good condition and maintain it properly, it should remain appealing to shoppers who want a practical hybrid minivan.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Sienna safe?

The 2021 Toyota Sienna earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, though it gets four-star ratings for overall front and rollover resistance.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes full-speed range dynamic radar adaptive cruise control, lane-tracing assist, pre-collision system with bicyclist and pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. The Star Safety System and blind spot monitoring are also standard, along with 10 airbags, LATCH anchors, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

One useful note for used shoppers: the spare tyre is not standard on every trim, so check the equipment list carefully if that matters to you.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 28.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 brings the redesigned hybrid-only Sienna formula and standard efficiency-focused powertrain.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $33,636 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $41,550 CAD average.
• It offers all-wheel drive and strong practicality for people and gear.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $47,259 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $41,550 CAD average.
• It carries the redesigned hybrid formula forward unchanged.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned hybrid Sienna at a softer price than the next model year, the 2021 is the sweet spot. If your priority is lower purchase cost, the 2020 is the better value play, while the 2022 mainly makes sense if you want the same formula and are comfortable paying more.

How does the 2021 Toyota Sienna compare to the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica?

Our experts score the 2021 Toyota Sienna 8.3/10 and the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica 8.7/10.

The Sienna leans into hybrid efficiency, standard AWD availability, and a strong family-focused package, while the Pacifica brings a more powerful V6 and a lower average used price. If you want the better fuel story and a newer hybrid-first design, the Sienna is the more distinctive choice. If you want more power and a lower used-market entry point, the Pacifica has the edge.
