What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Kia Telluride?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Telluride is sold in four trim levels in Canada, all with standard all-wheel drive: EX, SX, SX Limited, and SX Limited Nightsky Edition. The EX offers strong value, while the SX Limited adds premium stitched Nappa leather, a simulated suede headliner, a head-up display, and heated and ventilated front- and second-row seats. The SX Limited Nightsky Edition adds gloss black 20-inch wheels and a blacked-out look with a unique grille insert.
• Powertrain: You get a single powertrain: a 3.8-litre V6 with an eight-speed automatic transmission, 291 horsepower, and 262 lb-ft of torque. It includes Drive Mode Select with Snow, Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Smart modes, plus a low-speed Lock function in the AWD system.
• Safety package: Every version includes blind-spot warning, lane-maintenance technology with lane-keeping assistance, forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian and cyclist detection, rear cross-traffic alert, a driver-monitoring system, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, Rear Occupant Alert, and Safe Exit Assist. SX trim adds front parking sensors, a surround-view camera system, and Blind-Spot View Monitor.
• Infotainment: Every Telluride gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless smartphone charging, and Bluetooth for two phones at once. SX trim adds a 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and Limited grades add a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says it should return 11.3 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, and the test result cited was 11.5 L/100 km.

Which 2021 Kia Telluride trim should I buy?

The 2021 Kia Telluride is offered in 4 trim levels: EX, SX, SX Limited, and SX Limited Nightsky Edition.

Here's the short version:

• EX: This is the best-value choice if you want the Telluride’s core strengths without stretching to the pricier trims. It still gives you the standard AWD setup, the full safety suite, and the 10.25-inch infotainment system, so you are not giving up the essentials.
• SX: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and the added convenience of the 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, front parking sensors, surround-view camera system, and Blind-Spot View Monitor. It is the trim that most clearly adds luxury-like features over the EX.
• SX Limited: This is the trim to target if you want the most premium cabin experience, with Nappa leather, a simulated suede headliner, a head-up display, and heated and ventilated seats in both the front and second rows. It is the most luxurious mainstream-feeling version.
• SX Limited Nightsky Edition: Pick this if you want the SX Limited equipment with a darker, more distinctive appearance package. It adds the blacked-out styling treatment and unique wheels, so it suits you best if visual distinction matters.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but SX trim is where you get the extra camera-based and parking aids.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Kia Telluride?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 134 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.79% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $29,242 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Kia Telluride's resale value?

The current average of $29,468 CAD sits slightly below last year's $35,846 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face more price sensitivity than owners did a year ago. If you buy now, you are entering at a lower average price point than last year, which can help cushion depreciation if the market stays steady. Strong demand and broad appeal should still support used-market interest, but resale will depend on trim, condition, and mileage.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Kia Telluride safe?

The 2021 Telluride earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star frontal-impact results for both the driver and front passenger.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

You get a long list of standard driver-assistance features, including blind-spot warning, lane-maintenance technology with lane-keeping assistance, forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian and cyclist detection, rear cross-traffic alert, a driver-monitoring system, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, Rear Occupant Alert, and Safe Exit Assist. SX trim adds front parking sensors, a surround-view camera system, and Blind-Spot View Monitor. The main caveat is that the NHTSA frontal-impact result is lower than the overall score, so that is worth keeping in mind if safety is your top priority.

Should I buy a 2021 Kia Telluride or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.79% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model year’s main highlight is the debut of the SX Limited Nightsky Edition, which gives you a fresh appearance option without changing the Telluride’s core strengths.

The bottom line: If you want the Telluride’s proven formula at a lower average price than last year, the 2021 is a smart place to focus. If you are especially price-sensitive, keep shopping and compare listings carefully, but the 2021 already offers strong value, broad appeal, and a well-equipped lineup.

How does the 2021 Kia Telluride compare to the 2021 Hyundai Palisade?

Our experts score the 2021 Kia Telluride 9.3/10 and the 2021 Hyundai Palisade 9/10.

The Telluride has the edge in expert scoring and average used price, while the Palisade offers more listings and a slightly lower average used price. Both share the same engine and horsepower, so your decision is more about value, availability, and which cabin and feature set you prefer. If you want the stronger overall expert pick, the Telluride is the one to beat; if you want more inventory and a lower average price, the Palisade is worth a look.
