CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Volvo XC60

Summary
With 83 currently listed for sale and an average price of $28,180 CAD, 37.3% of 2020 Volvo XC60 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Volvo XC60 4.5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Volvo XC60 stands out as a premium compact crossover that blends Scandinavian design, strong safety credentials, and a broad range of technology. Volvo’s focus on safety is a major part of its appeal, and this model year sits within a generation that added steer assist to the City Safety system, along with Oncoming Lane Mitigation and blind spot monitoring that used steer assist to help reduce collision risk. For buyers who value a calm, upscale feel over flash, the XC60’s clean design and standard safety equipment make it especially distinctive.
The 2020 model year also brought useful tech upgrades, including an available 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a new Polestar Engineered model. Under the bonnet, the XC60 offered fuel-efficient four-cylinder powertrains, standard all-wheel drive, and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Standard equipment included leather upholstery, heated front seats, “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights, and a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, while available features such as a panoramic sunroof, Nappa leather seats, a 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, air suspension, and Pilot Assist added to its premium character.
There are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The XC60’s acceleration and braking can feel jerky, and rear-seat legroom is tight. Even so, the 2020 Volvo XC60 remains appealing for shoppers who want a stylish, safety-focused luxury SUV with a well-equipped cabin and a strong reputation for protection.

Volvos have proven themselves as a bonafide leader in the art of safety and innovation in the automobile industry. They have proven over the years through design and again safety that the design quality from the past boxy (common) design to the uniqueness and quality that others follow.

This car is exceptional. It’s clean, peppy, and is riddled with a ton of technology and features. The seats are amazingly comfortable. I would compare it to an Augo Q3, BMW X3 or an Acura. RDX.

| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $28,083 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $27,576 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $34,073 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $34,085 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −17.61% |

There are 86 listings available, which suggests a reasonable amount of inventory for shoppers to compare.
Is the 2020 Volvo XC60 a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Volvo XC60 earns a 4.5/5 user rating, and its appeal centres on Scandinavian design, strong safety credentials, and a broad range of technology. It is especially well suited to you if you want a calm, upscale compact crossover with standard safety equipment and a premium-feeling cabin rather than a flashier alternative. The market also shows 37.2% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Volvo XC60 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Volvo’s safety focus is a major part of the XC60’s identity, and this model year includes steer assist in City Safety, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, and blind spot monitoring with steer assist to help reduce collision risk. For used buyers, that points to a vehicle built around protection and confidence, though you should still budget for the usual long-term ownership checks on a luxury SUV.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Volvo XC60?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 86 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 17.61% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $27,576 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Volvo XC60's resale value?
The current average of $28,083 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,085 CAD.
That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, the current trend suggests you should focus on condition, mileage, and equipment to help protect value. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 17.61% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $30,232 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $28,083 CAD average.
- It adds a more compelling all-round luxury feel.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the stronger starting point because pricing has eased and deal availability is decent. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer-year appeal, the 2021 is the better secondary path for buyers who prioritise a more polished overall package.
