Used 2020 Subaru Outback for Sale nearSt Catharines, ON

How much does the 2020 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 17.66% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 198 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Subaru Outback earns a 4.95/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, spacious cabin, and strong safety features. The user feedback also points to impressive power and a smooth ride, while the model’s practical, wagon-like shape and standard all-wheel drive make it especially appealing if you want everyday usefulness over flash.

The trade-offs are the sluggish touchscreen response and the underwhelming base engine. Even so, the Outback’s roomy, capable, and comfortable character fits buyers who want a practical family vehicle with a strong safety reputation.

Only 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is selective rather than flooded with bargains.

Is the 2020 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.95/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, comfortable, and safe enough to inspire confidence over time. The expert assessment also highlights Subaru’s active all-wheel drive system and the sense that the Outback is built for consistent, everyday use.

The cost-effectiveness commentary also notes that the Outback can be a sensible long-term choice, even if you may want to watch for technology-related frustrations. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is more about cabin tech annoyance than core durability.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Subaru Outback?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Convenience trim is the most stripped-back version, with dual 7-inch screens instead of the larger display found higher up, and it can feel a little spartan. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience features, so you should decide whether the extra equipment is worth the jump.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre engine is fine for most driving, while the 2.4-litre turbocharged engine in XT trims is the better choice if you want stronger passing power or plan to tow. Both engines use a CVT, and Subaru’s tuning helps it feel more natural than many CVTs.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure alert with lane-keep assist. Blind-spot monitoring appears on the Touring trim, and reverse auto braking is also added there.
• Infotainment: Most trims get the 11.6-inch touchscreen, while the base trim uses dual 7-inch screens. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth are included, but the system can be slow to respond.
• Fuel efficiency: The upgraded 2.5-litre engine is rated at 9.0 L/100 km in the city, 7.1 L/100 km on the highway, and 8.2 L/100 km combined.

Which 2020 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2020 Subaru Outback is offered in 7 trim levels: Convenience, Touring, Limited, Premier, Outdoor XT, Limited XT, and Premier XT.

Here's the short version:

• Convenience: This is the entry point, and it gives you heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, keyless entry, LED headlights, automatic climate control, and the standard safety suite. It makes sense if you want the Outback’s core strengths at the lowest price.
• Touring: This is the first trim where the 11.6-inch touchscreen appears, along with dual-zone automatic climate control, a sunroof, a power liftgate, reverse auto braking, and blind-spot monitoring. It is the best-value step up if you want a more complete daily driver.
• Limited: This trim adds a memory system for the driver, an upgraded Harman Kardon stereo, leather upholstery, navigation, and a heated steering wheel. It suits you if comfort and winter convenience matter more than keeping the price down.
• Premier: This is the near-luxury choice, with Nappa leather and ventilated front seats. It is the right pick if you want the most upscale feel without moving into the turbo models.
• Outdoor XT: This trim combines the Limited’s equipment with the turbo engine, heated rear seats, a front-view camera, hill-descent control, and a more aggressive version of X-Mode. It is the best fit if you want extra capability and stronger performance.
• Limited XT: This trim follows the Limited formula but adds the turbocharged engine. It makes sense if you want the Limited’s comfort features with more power.
• Premier XT: This is the top-spec choice, pairing the Premier’s upscale equipment with the turbo engine. It is the one to buy if you want the most powerful and most luxurious Outback in this lineup.

EyeSight is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot monitoring is not standard on the Touring trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Subaru Outback?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards shoppers who compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 198 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.66% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,212 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $23,243 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,227 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the softer pricing means you may need to be more competitive to stand out.

The Outback’s practical reputation and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand over time. Buyers tend to value its space, standard all-wheel drive, and safety-focused image, which can help resale hold up better than you might expect.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.95/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2020 Subaru Outback earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight suite is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and lane departure alert with lane-keep assist. The standard all-wheel drive system also adds confidence in poor weather and slippery conditions.

A caveat is that DriverFocus is a disappointment, and the expert review says it can be overly intrusive and unreliable in practice. EyeSight is also described as an optical system that can shut off when its view is obstructed.

Should I buy a 2020 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.66% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.95/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 adds a larger touchscreen, updated safety tech, and new engines.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $26,975 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $23,243 CAD average.
• It focuses even more on practicality, reliability, and everyday usefulness.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and inventory is available. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model-year feel and a slightly more refined ownership pitch, the 2021 is the secondary path to consider.
