Is the 2020 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Subaru Forester earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its safety features, smooth driving experience, and interior design, and many see it as strong value compared with rivals like the Nissan Rogue and CR-V. The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with satisfaction tied closely to its safety, smooth driving feel, and everyday usability. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the core package and more about finding one that has been maintained well and driven in a way that suits your expectations.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Subaru Forester?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 204 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.69% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,642 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $22,728 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,641 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favourable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means resale expectations should be grounded in the current softer pricing environment rather than last year's higher benchmark. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.69% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2020 Forester makes the most sense if you want a practical, safety-focused compact SUV with strong owner approval and a market that currently offers some pricing flexibility. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2020 is the better starting point if you want the strongest mix of satisfaction and value.
