Why it stands out
The 2020 Kia Sorento stands out as a practical midsize SUV with a broad mix of powertrains, seating layouts, and equipment. By this model year, all-wheel drive had become standard, and the V6 engine was the default on all models but the LX base trim. That gives the 2020 Sorento a more substantial feel than earlier versions, while still keeping it accessible for buyers who want a used SUV with family-friendly versatility.
It also benefits from the third generation’s steady improvements in space, safety, and technology. The Sorento’s cabin gained better materials and more passenger room, while the third row was more accommodating than before, though still best suited to kids. Standard rear parking sensors and available forward collision and lane-departure warnings helped broaden its appeal, and available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto added welcome smartphone integration. For shoppers who need a used SUV that can do a bit of everything, that combination of space, features, and everyday usability is a major part of the Sorento’s appeal.
There are still a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The base four-cylinder engine was described as too weak for the larger Sorento, and the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine had been discontinued by 2020. Even so, the Sorento remained a strong value on the used market, especially for buyers who want a well-equipped three-row SUV without paying new-car prices.

This was the perfect car for us! But for a family whose best vehicle was over 16 years old, maybe we were just easy to please. Such a great value though compared to other seemingly overpriced manufacturers.

Great interior and runs really good. We tried several other cars but did not like the fit. This one is very comfortable for us and room to expand! It will last us for years!

How much does the 2020 Kia Sorento cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $17,916 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $17,916 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $21,590 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $21,590 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −17.02% |
Prices have softened 17.02% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 381 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2020 Kia Sorento a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Kia Sorento earns a 5/5 user rating, and its practical midsize-SUV layout makes it a strong fit if you want available three-row versatility in a family-friendly package. The standard all-wheel drive and default V6 on most trims give it a more confident, well-rounded character, while the broad spread of trims helps you match equipment to your needs. Its safety record and available connectivity features also support its appeal as a used family vehicle. Listings with good or great deal status make up 32.5% of the market, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Kia Sorento reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2020 Sorento’s steady improvement in safety and equipment helps reinforce its reputation as a sensible used SUV, especially if you value a practical layout and available family-hauling flexibility. Its strong crash-test results and standard rear parking sensors add to the sense that it was built with everyday ownership in mind. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is choosing a poorly maintained example, so service history and condition matter.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Kia Sorento?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 381 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 17.02% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $17,916 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Kia Sorento's resale value?
The current average of $17,916 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,590 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to resell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 17.02% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2020 Sorento is a strong choice if you want a practical midsize SUV with standard all-wheel drive, available three-row versatility, and a well-rounded used-market value proposition. If your priority is finding the best price, you may also want to compare nearby years, but the 2020 is the better fit when you want a balanced mix of space, capability, and market softness.
