Is the 2020 Honda Pilot a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Honda Pilot earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its spacious interior, responsive handling, and overall comfort, and they also value its performance and fuel efficiency. The Pilot’s three-row layout and practical packaging make it a strong fit if you want family-friendly space and everyday usability.

The trade-offs are its unintuitive technology and interior materials that feel cheap. In use, that means you may like it most if you prioritise space, comfort, and utility over the latest cabin polish.

With 26.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room for you to find value in the market.

Is the 2020 Honda Pilot reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with strong satisfaction around performance, comfort, and fuel efficiency. The Pilot also comes across as a vehicle people feel they can count on for family duty and everyday use.

From an expert perspective, its stout V6 and refined road manners support that dependable character. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about living with its less intuitive controls and city fuel use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Pilot?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is a solid value in Canada with standard all-wheel drive, 18-inch alloy wheels, tri-zone climate control, remote keyless entry, remote start, heated front seats, push-button start, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, power locks, and power windows with a one-touch driver’s window. The EX adds a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, LED fog lights, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, roof rails, and a power moonroof. The EX-L adds leather upholstery, a power liftgate, a heated steering wheel, second-row outboard heated seats and in-door sunshades, a 4-way power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, and on-board navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio. The Touring adds 20-inch wheels, blue ambient interior lighting, an upgraded stereo, a panoramic sunroof in seven-seat configuration, heated and ventilated front seats, auto on-off LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and additional on-board tech. The Black Edition is based on the Touring trim and adds unique 20-inch black-painted wheels, black exterior paint, black grille and accents, and red interior lighting.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-litre V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, and standard all-wheel drive in Canada. The 6-speed automatic is used on LX, EX, and EX-L trims, while Touring and Black Edition models get a 9-speed automatic that provides more refined acceleration and should help fuel efficiency.
• Safety package: HondaSensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist and lane-departure warning, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Front and side-impact airbags, child-seat anchors, Vehicle Stability Assist, and traction control are also standard. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and front and rear parking sensors are optional.
• Infotainment: All trims get Honda’s Display Audio 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Bluetooth connectivity and a USB port are included on the base trim, while SiriusXM satellite radio is added from the EX-L trim. Navigation is added on the EX-L, and a rear entertainment system and Wi-Fi hotspot are standard on the Touring and Black Edition.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates versions with the 6-speed automatic at 13.0 L/100 km city, 9.3 L/100 km highway, and 11.3 L/100 km combined. With the 9-speed automatic, those numbers change to 12.4 L/100 km city, 9.3 L/100 km highway, and 11.0 L/100 km combined.

Which 2020 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2020 Honda Pilot is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Black Edition.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value play if you want the essentials without stretching your budget. You still get standard all-wheel drive, heated front seats, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and HondaSensing, so it covers the core family needs well.
• EX: Choose this if you want a better daily experience without jumping too far in price. The power driver’s seat, moonroof, roof rails, and LED fog lights make it a more rounded pick than the LX.
• EX-L: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather, a power liftgate, heated second-row outboard seats, a heated steering wheel, navigation, and SiriusXM. It feels like the point where the Pilot becomes notably more premium and easier to live with.
• Touring: Pick this if you want the richer tech and comfort upgrades, including the upgraded stereo, panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, and rear entertainment system. It suits you best if you regularly carry passengers on longer trips.
• Black Edition: This is the style-led top trim, built on the Touring and adding blacked-out exterior details and red interior lighting. It makes sense if you want the most distinctive look and the fullest feature set.

HondaSensing is standard across the range, so even the lower trims give you a strong safety package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Pilot?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 26.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 196 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.60% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $29,186 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Honda Pilot's resale value?

The current average of $30,506 CAD sits slightly below last year's $33,015 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices stay under pressure. If you own one for several years, the Pilot’s broad family appeal and practical layout should still help support demand. The strongest resale prospects will likely go to well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean histories.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Honda Pilot safe?

The 2020 Honda Pilot earns a five-star overall crash test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the best crash test score of Good from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

HondaSensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist and lane-departure warning, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Front and side-impact airbags, child-seat anchors, Vehicle Stability Assist, and traction control are also standard.

Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and front and rear parking sensors are optional, so you may want to prioritise a trim or example that includes those extras if parking assistance matters to you.

Should I buy a 2020 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 26.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.60% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds the Black Edition trim and keeps HondaSensing standard across the range.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,457 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $30,506 CAD average.
• It keeps the Pilot’s family-focused strengths while leaning into a more refined all-around package.

The 2020 is the better pick if you want the lower price and still want the Pilot’s space, safety, and practicality. If you can spend more and want the newer model-year alternative, the 2021 is worth a look, but price-sensitive buyers should start with the 2020.
