CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
Summary
With 114 currently listed for sale and an average price of $26,260 CAD, 32.5% of 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 4.78 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out as a luxury mid-size car that blends a strong sense of prestige with a long-standing reputation for innovation. In this generation, it is described as a tech-fest with advanced safety and luxury features, and it wears a shape that makes it look like a scaled-down S-Class. That combination gives it broad appeal for buyers who want a car that feels substantial, refined, and thoroughly modern without losing the traditional E-Class emphasis on comfort and space.
For 2017, the E-Class was available as a sedan, wagon, coupe, and Cabriolet, and it offered a wide spread of engines and drivetrains. The standard equipment was notably generous, with electric adjustment for the steering wheel and front seats, a rear-view camera, satellite navigation, LED headlamps, and a wealth of driver assistance safety features. The cabin was also a major selling point, with a luxurious, high-tech feel and, in most versions, two side-by-side 12.3-inch display screens that create the appearance of one large screen. Buyers looking for performance could also choose from more powerful six-cylinder and AMG versions, while Canadian-market models commonly came with 4Matic all-wheel drive.
There are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The E-Class is expensive, even by class standards, and some owners have reported shuddering brakes, glitchy infotainment systems, and costly air suspension repairs on cars equipped with it. Still, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class remains appealing because it delivers a lot of luxury, technology, and everyday usability in one package, with a reputation for feeling beautifully built and generally reliable.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 4.8/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its luxurious feel, strong performance, and excellent handling, while also appreciating the comfortable ride and stylish design. The overview also highlights its broad appeal if you want a refined luxury mid-size car with plenty of technology, comfort, and everyday usability. With 28.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary suggests that many owners find it dependable enough to live with happily over time, especially when you factor in the car’s luxurious feel and strong performance. It is also described as generally reliable in the overview, which supports its reputation as a car you can count on if it has been maintained properly. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that repair and maintenance costs can be high, so service history matters.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 118 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.68% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $25,385 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $26,176 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,753 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has eased, which can help you buy more selectively now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you are thinking about future resale, the current trend implies you should focus on well-kept examples with strong service records and desirable equipment. Cars that are priced well today may still hold appeal later if they remain clean, well maintained, and properly documented.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.68% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2017 is a strong choice if you want a well-equipped luxury sedan with proven owner appeal and some pricing softness on your side. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than the newest badge.
