CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Lexus IS
Summary
With 54 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,839 CAD, 40.7% of 2017 Lexus IS listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Lexus IS 4.5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Lexus IS stands out as a compact luxury sports sedan that blends sharp driving manners with a strong list of standard equipment. For this model year, it received revised front and rear ends, a tweaked grille, new headlights and taillights, a bigger infotainment system, and a redesigned centre console. It also came with Lexus Safety System+ as standard, bringing forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. That combination makes it appealing to buyers who want a premium-feeling sedan that is easy to live with and still geared towards driving enjoyment.
It is also distinctive for offering a broad mix of powertrains within the same generation, including a 2.5-litre V6, a 3.5-litre V6, and a 5.0-litre V8 elsewhere in the lineup. The 2017 model year sits in a generation that was already known for standard luxury touches such as passive entry, push-button start, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth, and an eight-inch infotainment system. At the same time, the Lexus IS remains a less practical choice for families because the back seat is really tight, and it is not especially strong on cargo space.

I have only owned this car for three weeks and am still learning features. Absolutely love the ride of this car. The seats are amazing with lumbar support. I am hoping to own this car for a long time.

How much does the 2017 Lexus IS cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $23,752 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $21,566 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $25,240 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $25,259 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.97% |
Prices have softened 5.97% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 52 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2017 Lexus IS a good car?
Yes — the 4.5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction for this model year. The 2017 Lexus IS stands out as a compact luxury sports sedan that blends sharp driving manners with a strong list of standard equipment. It is appealing if you want a premium-feeling sedan that is easy to live with and still geared towards driving enjoyment, especially with the refreshed styling, larger infotainment system, and standard Lexus Safety System+.
The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 40.4% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2017 Lexus IS reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2017 Lexus IS is presented as a well-equipped luxury sedan with standard safety technology and a reputation for being easy to live with. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that its tight rear seat and limited cargo space can make it less versatile if your needs grow over time.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Lexus IS?
It looks like a buyer’s market if you are shopping carefully.
- Deal availability: 40.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 52 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.97% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $21,566 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Lexus IS's resale value?
The current average of $23,752 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,259 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the model has become a bit more accessible for buyers, which can make it harder for a future seller to command a premium unless the vehicle is especially well kept. If you buy at the right price now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. Strong demand for well-priced examples can help support resale, especially when the market still shows a healthy share of good deals.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Lexus IS or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 40.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.97% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want the refreshed styling, standard safety tech, and a premium compact sedan feel at a more approachable price. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby year may be worth a look, but the 2017 is the better pick when you want the updated package and a solid mix of value and equipment.
