What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The C-Class is presented as a car that can feel upscale without losing everyday usability, but the base setup is more modest than higher-spec versions. Look for the equipment differences that matter to you, especially if you want a more luxurious cabin or a more polished overall feel.
• Powertrain: You’ll find a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission. In Canada, the 4Matic sedan uses all-wheel drive as standard.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes rear side thorax-level airbags, stability control that can compensate for crosswinds, forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, an attention monitor, and rain-drying brake logic. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus.
• Infotainment: A 7-inch central screen is standard with Bluetooth, HD Radio, and two USB ports. The upgraded system adds an 8.4-inch screen and navigation, and the interface includes voice recognition plus an integrated owner’s manual.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the C300 4Matic at 10.1 L/100 km city, 7.8 L/100 km highway, and 9.1 L/100 km combined. In testing, it averaged 10.2 L/100 km.

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 318 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.11% compared with last year.

What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class's resale value?

The current average of $23,419 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,645 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the softer trend means you may need to price competitively to stand out, especially if similar examples continue to appear in healthy supply. On the other hand, a well-kept C-Class with the right equipment and a clean history can still hold appeal because it sits in a desirable luxury segment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class safe?

The 2017 C-Class has a five-star rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and top ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which tested a 2016 model and gave it the Top Safety Pick+ award.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes rear side thorax-level airbags, stability control that can compensate for crosswinds, forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, and an attention monitor. Optional safety features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus.

Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.11% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Time and again, Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan buyers are attracted to this car’s near-perfect blend of comfort, performance, price, and snob appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the C-Class formula at a softer price than newer examples, the 2017 is a sensible place to land. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby year with a lower average price may be worth cross-shopping, but the 2017 remains the better pick if you want the strongest mix of value, safety, and the classic C-Class feel.
