What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Ford Mustang?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base car brings a 6-cylinder engine, cruise control, stainless steel dual exhaust, HID headlights, and 17-inch alloy wheels, while the V6 Premium adds leather upholstery, the smartphone-linked SYNC system, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, aluminium interior trim, a premium audio package with satellite radio service, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. GT trims add the 5.0-litre powerplant, upgraded Brembo brakes, a rear spoiler, a programmable key, upgraded audio with a trunk-mounted subwoofer, SYNC infotainment, functional hood vents, and 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels.
• Powertrain: The base engine is a 3.7-litre V6 with 305 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, while GT models use a 5.0-litre V8 with 420 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. The V6 can run on 87-octane fuel, while the GT calls for premium gas.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes four-wheel antilock disc brakes, AdvanceTrac traction control with electronic stability control, hill-start assist with the available six-speed manual transmission, and four airbags including front side airbags. The car does not include more advanced systems such as blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, or lane-departure warning.

Which 2014 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2014 Ford Mustang is offered in 3 trim levels: base, V6 Premium, GT.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the value entry point if you want the Mustang experience with the 6-cylinder engine, cruise control, HID headlights, and 17-inch alloy wheels. It makes sense if you care more about the badge, styling, and lower running costs than extra comfort features.
• V6 Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want a more complete daily-driver setup, because it adds leather upholstery, SYNC, satellite radio, an auto-dimming mirror, aluminium interior trim, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.
• GT: Choose this if you want the V8 character, stronger performance, and the extra hardware that comes with it, including Brembo brakes, a rear spoiler, upgraded audio, and larger wheels.

Safety content notes that the Convertible earned top marks in IIHS crash tests, while NHTSA gave it five-star rollover protection.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Ford Mustang?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 92 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.15% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $18,628 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $21,849 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,787 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has eased, which can make the car more attractive to buyers today but slightly less favourable for sellers trying to maximise return. If you own one and plan to sell later, the current trend implies you may need to price competitively to stand out.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2014 Ford Mustang Convertible earned top marks in all of its crash tests from IIHS, and it earns five-star ratings for rollover protection from NHTSA.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes four-wheel antilock disc brakes, AdvanceTrac traction control with electronic stability control, hill-start assist with the available six-speed manual transmission, and four airbags including front side airbags. The safety content also notes the absence of more advanced driver-assistance features such as blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning.

Should I buy a 2014 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.15% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 is the culmination of five decades of engineering development and is presented as the best the pony car has ever been.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $23,831 CAD, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $21,849 CAD average.
• It brings a redesigned, more modernised take on the Mustang with big gains in dynamics and technology.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter buy because prices have eased and owner satisfaction is strong. If you can stretch for a newer car and want the more modernised package, the 2015 is the better alternative.
