Why it stands out
The 2014 Ford Mustang stands out as the result of five decades of engineering development, and it is presented as the best the pony car has ever been. That long evolution gives it a distinctive appeal for buyers who want a classic nameplate with a more polished, mature character than its heritage alone might suggest.
On the road, the 5.0-litre engine pulls eagerly deep into redline territory under hard acceleration, and it does so without a significant amount of rear-end squat. That combination points to a car that is not just about straight-line drama, but also about keeping its composure when driven hard. Owners also commonly praise its powerful performance, classic design, impressive handling, and the sound of the exhaust, which reinforces the Mustang’s emotional appeal.
There are some practical compromises, though. A few drivers mention cramped back seats, the manual transmission as an area of concern, and smaller trunk space in some models. Even so, the 2014 Ford Mustang remains distinctive because it blends strong performance and recognisable style with a level of refinement that reflects its long development history.

Amazing car, very fun to drive with just enough amount of power. Small and compact which makes it easy to maneuver. This is my daily driver and I love it and yes a V8 has superior performance but I dont race so this is perfect.

Is the 2014 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Ford Mustang earns a 4.86/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Cost effectiveness.
Owners consistently praise its powerful performance, classic design, impressive handling, and the sound of the exhaust. That lines up well with the overview’s focus on a polished, mature character and strong road presence, while the practical compromises are mainly around rear-seat space, the manual transmission, and trunk room in some versions. With 22.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.
Is the 2014 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a car that owners feel good about living with, and the review summary repeatedly highlights powerful performance, classic design, impressive handling, and a memorable exhaust note. The expert test-drive notes also describe the Mustang as a mature result of decades of development, with a powertrain and chassis that feel composed when driven hard. J.D. Power and Associates ranks the Mustang above average for dependability, which supports the case for steady ownership confidence.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about finding a well-kept example that hasn’t been worn down by hard use or neglected maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Ford Mustang?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base car is more basic, while the V6 Premium adds leather upholstery, the SYNC system, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, aluminium interior trim, premium audio with satellite radio, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. GT trims add the 5.0-litre powerplant, Brembo brakes, a rear spoiler, a programmable key, upgraded audio with a trunk-mounted subwoofer, HID headlights, functional hood vents, and 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels.
- Powertrain: The base engine is a 3.7-litre V6 with 305 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, while GT trims use a 5.0-litre V8 with 420 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. The V6 can run on 87-octane fuel, while the GT asks for premium fuel.
- Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes four-wheel antilock disc brakes, AdvanceTrac traction control with electronic stability control, hill-start assist with the available six-speed manual transmission, and four airbags including front side airbags. The car does not offer blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, or lane-departure warning.
- Infotainment: Available tech includes SYNC AppLink, a touchscreen and voice-controlled navigation system with SiriusXM real-time traffic information, HD radio, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a rear-view camera that can display on the navigation screen or interior rear-view mirror.
- Fuel efficiency: The V6 with a six-speed manual is rated at 8.1 L/100 km on the highway, while the GT manual is rated at 15.4 L/100 km city and 9.4 highway. The GT automatic is rated at 13.3 L/100 km city and 9.3 highway.
Which 2014 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?
The 2014 Ford Mustang is offered in 3 trim levels: base, V6 Premium, GT.
Here's the short version:
- base: This is the least expensive way in, and it gives you the 6-cylinder engine, cruise control, stainless steel dual exhaust, HID headlights, and 17-inch alloy wheels. It makes sense if you want the Mustang look and feel without paying for extra comfort or tech.
- V6 Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want a more complete daily-driver setup. You get leather upholstery, SYNC, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, aluminium interior trim, premium audio with satellite radio, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.
- GT: This is the choice if you want the 5.0-litre V8, Brembo brakes, a rear spoiler, upgraded audio with a trunk-mounted subwoofer, HID headlights, functional hood vents, and larger wheels. It suits you best if performance is the priority.
The safety package includes four-wheel antilock disc brakes, AdvanceTrac traction control with electronic stability control, hill-start assist with the available six-speed manual transmission, and four airbags including front side airbags.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Ford Mustang?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 22.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 90 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.01% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $18,627 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $22,156 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,574 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right point in the cycle. If you purchase near the lower end of the range, you may have less downside exposure when it comes time to sell. The Mustang’s strong enthusiast appeal should help keep demand steady, especially for cleaner, better-equipped examples.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Ford Mustang safe?
The 2014 Ford Mustang Convertible earned top marks in all of its IIHS crash tests, and it earns a five-star rating for rollover protection from NHTSA.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes four-wheel antilock disc brakes, AdvanceTrac traction control with electronic stability control, hill-start assist with the available six-speed manual transmission, and four airbags including front side airbags. The car does not include blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, or lane-departure warning.
Should I buy a 2014 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 22.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.01% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 combines mature styling with strong performance and a polished, well-developed character.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $23,503 CAD, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $22,156 CAD average.
- It brings a redesigned, more modernised Mustang with major gains in dynamics and technology.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter buy because pricing has eased and owner satisfaction remains strong. If you can stretch for a newer car and want the redesign benefits, the 2015 is the better long-term choice.
