CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Ford Mustang
overall

Summary
With 32 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,474 CAD, 28.1% of 2014 Ford Mustang listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Ford Mustang 4.86 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Ford Mustang stands out as a pony car that feels thoroughly developed rather than merely nostalgic. According to the test-drive summary, it represents the culmination of five decades of engineering development, and the result is a Mustang that is described as better than ever. That makes it appealing to buyers who want a classic nameplate with a more polished, mature character.
Its strongest draw is performance. Under hard acceleration, the 5.0-litre engine pulls eagerly deep into redline territory, and it does so without a significant amount of rear-end squat. That combination suggests a car that delivers strong straight-line urgency while keeping its composure. Owner feedback also points to the Mustang’s powerful performance, impressive handling, and distinctive exhaust sound as major reasons it remains desirable.
There are still practical compromises, though. Some drivers mention cramped back seats and smaller trunk space in some models, so the 2014 Ford Mustang is best understood as a driver-focused coupe rather than a space-efficient everyday hauler. Even so, for shoppers prioritising character, sound, and engaging performance, it offers a compelling blend of heritage and refinement.

Amazing car, very fun to drive with just enough amount of power. Small and compact which makes it easy to maneuver. This is my daily driver and I love it and yes a V8 has superior performance but I dont race so this is perfect.

Is the 2014 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — with a 4.86/5 user rating and an expert score of 7/10, it lands as a strong pick for shoppers who want a classic nameplate with a more polished, mature character. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Cost effectiveness.
Owners consistently praise its powerful performance, impressive handling, and distinctive exhaust sound, while also appreciating the classic design and sleek look. The overview also points to a driver-focused coupe with strong straight-line urgency and a more developed feel than a purely nostalgic pony car.
With 22.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to find value if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The expert review also describes the Mustang as the culmination of decades of engineering development, which supports the sense that this is a mature, well-sorted version of the nameplate.
The expert notes also point to above-average dependability in comparative analysis, which is reassuring for used buyers weighing ownership risk. For you, the main long-term concern is less about outright durability and more about choosing a well-maintained example that hasn’t been neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Ford Mustang?
Key things to evaluate:
Trim level: The base Mustang brings a 6-cylinder engine, cruise control, stainless steel dual exhaust, HID headlights, and 17-inch alloy wheels, while the V6 Premium adds leather upholstery, the smartphone-linked SYNC system, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, aluminum interior trim, a premium audio package with satellite radio service, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. GT trims add a 5.0-litre powerplant, Brembo brakes, a rear spoiler, a programmable key, upgraded audio with a trunk-mounted subwoofer, SYNC infotainment, HID headlights, functional hood vents, and 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels. The V6 Premium is the best-value trim if you want more comfort and tech without stepping up to V8 power.
Powertrain: The base engine is a 3.7-litre V6 with 305 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, paired with a standard limited-slip rear differential and regular 87-octane fuel. GT models use a 5.0-litre V8 with 420 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque, and an available six-speed automatic is also mentioned for the GT.
Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes four-wheel antilock disc brakes, AdvanceTrac traction control with electronic stability control, hill-start assist with the available six-speed manual transmission, and four airbags including front side airbags. The Convertible earned top marks in all of its crash tests, and the Mustang Convertible also received five-star rollover protection from NHTSA. Base trims do not include more advanced driver-assistance systems such as blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, or lane-departure warning.
Infotainment: Available tech includes Ford’s SYNC AppLink, a touchscreen and voice-controlled navigation system with SiriusXM real-time traffic information, HD radio, dual-zone automatic climate control, a rear-view camera, and Bluetooth smartphone connectivity on higher grades. The source does not specify a screen size or OTA capability.
Fuel efficiency: The V6 manual is rated at 8.1 L/100 km on the highway, while the GT manual is rated at 15.4 L/100 km in the city and 9.4 L/100 km on the highway. The GT automatic is rated at 13.3 L/100 km in the city and 9.3 L/100 km on the highway.
Which 2014 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?
The 2014 Ford Mustang is offered in 3 trim levels: base Mustang, V6 Premium, GT.
Here's the short version:
base Mustang: This is the entry point if you want the Mustang experience at the lowest price, with a 6-cylinder engine, cruise control, HID headlights, and 17-inch alloy wheels. It suits you if you care more about the badge and driving character than extra comfort features.
V6 Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want the most balanced mix of equipment and price. You get leather upholstery, SYNC, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, aluminum interior trim, a premium audio package with satellite radio, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.
GT: Choose this if you want the V8 character that defines the Mustang’s performance image. It adds the 5.0-litre engine, Brembo brakes, upgraded audio, a rear spoiler, hood vents, and larger wheels, making it the clear pick for buyers prioritising power and presence.
The Convertible earned top marks in all of its crash tests, and the Mustang Convertible also received five-star rollover protection from NHTSA.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Ford Mustang?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 22.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 83 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.22% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $18,641 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $20,238 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,797 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale upside may be more limited unless the car is especially clean, well-optioned, or desirable to enthusiasts.
Because the Mustang still has strong enthusiast appeal, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than ordinary coupes. But if you buy near the current average, you should expect resale to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim desirability.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Ford Mustang safe?
The 2014 Ford Mustang Convertible earned top marks in all of its crash tests, and the Mustang Convertible has five-star rollover protection from NHTSA.

Should I buy a 2014 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 22.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.22% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 is the culmination of decades of engineering development and feels more mature than a purely nostalgic pony car.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $22,723 CAD, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $20,238 CAD average.
- It is a redesigned 50th-anniversary Mustang with big gains in dynamics and technology.
The 2014 is the better value if you want a more affordable Mustang with strong enthusiast appeal and proven owner satisfaction. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer redesign, the 2015 is the better choice for buyers who prioritise the latest improvements over price.
