The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS exuded a refined elegance with its modern design, which, while bordering on understated, promised longevity. The GLS 450 test vehicle featured striking 22-inch AMG rims, a new silver four-louver grille, and polished metal accents that complemented its lustrous paint. Inside, the GLS 450 boasted a Bahia Brown over Black interior with natural-grain Grey Oak, contrast stitching, and polished aluminum accents, creating a luxurious environment typical of Mercedes.

In contrast, the 2025 Volkswagen Atlas presented a more rugged and muscular appearance, especially in the Execline trim with its Mountain Lake Blue exterior. The Atlas featured polished aluminum detailing, front and rear light bars, and 21-inch wheels, giving it an upscale look. Inside, the Atlas offered a warm and inviting atmosphere with diamond-stitched leather and metallic accents. However, the touch-sensing controls for temperature and volume were less satisfying to use, especially in colder conditions.

Despite initial concerns about its power, the engine proved refined and capable for daily driving. The Atlas featured an eight-speed automatic transmission and VW’s 4Motion AWD system. The 2025 Volkswagen Atlas used VW’s MIB3 system with a 12-inch touchscreen. However, the lack of traditional controls and an unreliable voice assistant made it less user-friendly.
