2023 Ford Bronco Reviews Summary

With the choice of two or four doors between nine distinct models, there's a Ford Bronco to match almost any shopper's needs. It's equally at home on the highway or scaling mountains and is as tough as it is fashionable, which is why it remains one of the most desirable vehicles on the market.

2024 BMW X5 Reviews Summary

Our test vehicle for this review was the X5 xDrive50e, the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version of the X5 midsize SUV, but it’s just one of several X5 models you can buy. The xDrive40i features a satisfying turbocharged six-cylinder engine (with electric assist in the plug-in hybrid), while the M60i features a turbocharged V8 engine. Maximum performance is available in the comically fun X5 M Competition. Drive any of them, though, and it’s easy to understand why the X5 is one of BMW’s best-selling models.

Verdict: Newer BMWs are losing what has always made this automaker’s cars and SUVs appealing to people who like to drive. Fortunately, the 2024 BMW X5 hasn’t succumbed to the trend. In xDrive50e specification, it remains a delight to drive while supplying about 63 kilometres of electric-only range before its gasoline-fueled turbo six turns on.

2023 Ford Bronco

9/10

2024 BMW X5

9/10

The 2023 Ford Bronco was available in nine distinct trims, each showcasing a blend of retro-cool styling and modern engineering. Its blocky, upright shape, wide horizontal grille, and big round headlights made it unmistakable. The Base trim had a primitive look with steel wheels, while the Raptor stood out with a wide stance and massive tires. The Heritage Edition added nostalgic touches with a white grille and plaid upholstery. The Bronco's design was not just for aesthetics; functional elements like cleats above the headlights and raised fins helped with cargo and navigation.

Inside, the Bronco continued its rugged theme with a broad dash and sealed switches for easy cleaning. The interior was designed for durability, featuring marine-grade vinyl upholstery and drain plugs. While not as refined as typical SUVs, the Bronco offered practical features like Molle-type bag attachments and customizable handholds. The materials were sturdy, and despite some creaking, it was quieter than a Jeep Wrangler.

The 2024 BMW X5, last redesigned in 2019, maintained a stylish appearance, though the M Sport treatment was less favoured. It featured a turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine, a turbo-six PHEV powertrain, and a turbocharged V8 engine. The xDrive50e PHEV model offered a significant upgrade in electric range and power output. The interior received a modern touch with the BMW Curved Display and reduced physical controls, while maintaining high-quality materials. The test vehicle, in xDrive50e M Sport Pro specification, included Brooklyn Grey paint and optional 21-inch wheels.

2024 BMW X5

10/10

The 2023 Ford Bronco offered three engine choices: a 2.3-litre four-cylinder with 300 hp, a 2.7-litre V6 with 330 hp, and a 3.0-litre V6 in the Raptor with 418 hp. All models featured a 4WD drivetrain and a two-speed transfer case. The Bronco excelled in off-road capabilities without sacrificing on-road manners, offering a quieter ride than the Jeep Wrangler. However, its high-riding dimensions required careful handling on curvy roads.

The 2024 BMW X5 xDrive50e PHEV boasted a new electric motor and a 19.2 kWh battery, offering 63 km of electric-only range. It produced 483 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, accelerating to 96 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The PHEV model was praised for its efficiency and driving dynamics, with an adaptive damping air suspension that masked its weight. The X5 excelled in both city and highway driving, offering a smooth and engaging experience.

The 2023 Ford Bronco's boxy shape provided ample interior space, with the four-door model offering easier access to rear seats. The two-door Bronco had 634 litres of cargo space, expanding to 1,481 litres with seats folded, while the four-door offered up to 2,197 litres. The rear seats didn't fold flat, but the Bronco's design allowed for easy removal of fenders and doors, enhancing its off-road utility.

The 2024 BMW X5 xDrive50e accommodated five people with a 937-litre cargo area, expanding to 2,016 litres. The split liftgate design provided a convenient seating area but required stretching to reach deep cargo. The interior featured standard Sensafin artificial leather, with options for 20-way power-adjustable seats, climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. The X5 no longer offered a third-row seat, focusing on comfort and luxury for five passengers.

The 2023 Ford Bronco integrated technology to enhance off-road capabilities with G.O.A.T. drive modes and numerous camera views. It featured wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with an optional 12-inch infotainment display. The Trail Turn Assist was a standout feature, allowing sharp turns by braking the inside rear wheel.

The 2024 BMW X5 featured a BMW Curved Display with a 12.3-inch digital panel and a 14.9-inch touchscreen. It ran on BMW Operating System 8.5, offering wireless connectivity, SiriusXM, and over-the-air updates. The Intelligent Personal Assistant had limitations, but the head-up display and augmented video navigation were praised. The Harman Kardon sound system provided excellent audio quality.
