2022 GMC Canyon Reviews Summary

Compared to full-size models, midsize pickups offer buyers the convenience of the pickup truck body style at a more budget-friendly price. Sure, you sacrifice a bit in the way of interior space and capability, but for many buyers, the smaller footprint and increased efficiency make these midsize offerings more livable.

The GMC Canyon—corporate cousin to the Chevrolet Colorado but with a more premium look and feel—gets a couple of changes for 2022. A new Denali Black Edition equipment package joins the options list, and the High Elevation package has been renamed the Elevation Premium package.

The 2022 GMC Canyon is available in four trim levels: Elevation Standard, Elevation, AT4, and Denali. We drove the off-road-focused AT4 model for this review.

2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Reviews Summary

There was once a time when we expected less out of specialized vehicles. Cars were for families, trucks were for the work sites, and SUVs were for hunting lodges. That concept left decades ago. Today, we expect our vehicles to do it all. There’s no better example of this than in the full-size truck market. These are incredibly capable, powerful vehicles that are also expected to be reliable, comfortable commuting vehicles that have the latest in-car and infotainment technology.

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is in a tough spot. The big pickup has the work-truck credentials covered, but it has some stiff competition in the refinement department. A critical update to address these issues arrived for the 2022 model year. While the exterior updates were subtle, the big changes came inside the cabin. For 2023, the Chevy Silverado 1500 receives power upgrades for the optional Duramax diesel engine. A new Silverado ZR2 Bison off-road configuration is available as well. But the real work to keep the Silverado relevant came in 2022 with those interior updates. Read on to learn if those changes are enough to keep the Silverado 1500 competitive in the perpetually evolving full-size pickup truck market.

2022 GMC Canyon

7/10

2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

7/10

The 2022 GMC Canyon, introduced in 2015, boasted a premium aesthetic, especially in its Denali trim. This luxury-oriented version featured a distinctive chrome grille, 20-inch diamond-cut machined alloy wheels, and chrome assist steps. Inside, it offered an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation, heated and ventilated perforated leather seats, and a Bose premium audio system. The AT4 off-road variant also maintained a high-end feel with features like a black chrome grille, LED lighting, and premium leather seats. While the lower trims like Elevation and Elevation Standard had more standard materials, the overall quality of the Canyon was above average for its class.

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 had a design that sparked mixed reactions. Its small headlights and aggressive styling were polarizing, yet aligned with Chevrolet's current design language. Various appearance packages, such as the Rally Edition and Redline Edition, added visual flair. Inside, the Silverado offered two distinct interior layouts depending on the trim. The WT and Custom trims retained the pre-2022 facelift interiors, while others featured a modern dash with a large touchscreen. The cabin was functional, with controls conveniently placed, and higher trims offered more advanced tech and comfort features.

The V6 and diesel engines could tow up to 3,175 kilograms (7,000 pounds) with the Trailering package.
