The RS trim, which we tested, had a starting MSRP of $30,298, but options increased the price to $37,653. Despite its stylish interior, the cabin was filled with hard plastic, which detracted from its overall value proposition.

The 2023 Lincoln Aviator, on the other hand, was a midsize crossover that exuded luxury and sophistication. It featured a modern Lincoln face and grille, making it a standout in Lincoln's SUV lineup. The Aviator was available with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine or a plug-in hybrid powertrain, both offering standard all-wheel drive. Prices ranged from $73,400 to $85,400, with our fully loaded Grand Touring model priced at $103,745. The Aviator's interior was a feast for the eyes, with high-end materials, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof. However, some chrome detailing felt cheap, and the key fob was disappointingly lightweight. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Aviator's interior was undeniably luxurious.

This engine made the Trailblazer feel lively, especially with the nine-speed automatic transmission that came with the all-wheel-drive option. The Trailblazer's light curb weight and turbocharged torque contributed to its nimble handling, making it fun to drive around town. However, it was loud on highways, and the suspension struggled with speed bumps. Fuel consumption averaged 9.0 litres per 100 kilometres, slightly higher than the official rating of 8.4 L/100 km with AWD.

The 2023 Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring, a plug-in hybrid, delivered impressive power with 494 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 630 lb-ft of torque at 2,250 rpm. It offered 34 kilometres of electric driving range and averaged 10.3 litres per 100 kilometres in hybrid mode. The Aviator's various driving modes allowed for efficient use of its powertrain, and the Dynamic Handling Package provided a smooth and predictable ride. Despite its commendable handling, the Aviator wasn't particularly fun to drive, with heavy and numb steering. However, it excelled in providing a quiet and smooth ride, ideal for long highway journeys.

The 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer, though small, was highly functional. It offered ample room for four passengers, with a 10-way power-adjustable driver seat for optimal comfort. The rear seat, while roomy, was shaped like a park bench, prioritizing cargo space over passenger comfort. The Trailblazer's cargo capacity was impressive, with 716 litres of space in the trunk and 1,540 litres with the rear seats folded. The front passenger seat also folded flat, accommodating items up to 2.5 metres long.

The second-row captain's chairs were spacious and supportive, but the third row was cramped and best suited for children. With the third row in use, the Aviator offered 519 litres of cargo space, expanding to 1,183 litres with the seats folded. Our test vehicle had the larger screen, offering access to Spotify, SiriusXM, and an optional Bose audio system. The system was user-friendly, with physical controls for easy navigation. Additional tech included a keyless entry keypad and a hands-free power liftgate.

The 2023 Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring was loaded with technology, including a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a WiFi hotspot. However, it ran on the outdated Sync 3 software, which struggled with voice recognition. The Aviator also featured a 28-speaker Revel Ultima 3D audio system, wireless charging, and a digital key system. The head-up display was visible even with polarized sunglasses, and parking sensors and a surround-view camera system aided in parking.
