2021 Toyota Sienna Reviews Summary

Toyota’s minivan got a major makeover for 2021, now entering its fourth generation of production since debuting as a 1997 model. For the first time, the Sienna gets a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain, and not only that—it’s standard equipment. The Sienna Hybrid is built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA-K) platform, shared with the Highlander and other current Toyota models.

2021 INFINITI QX80 Reviews Summary

You might not expect Nissan’s luxury brand to make a hulking land yacht with globetrotting off-road capability, but that’s exactly what you get with the 2021 Infiniti QX80.

The QX80 is one of the last old-school SUVs, boasting body-on-frame construction and an available four-wheel drive (4WD) system with low range. It’s based on the Nissan Armada, which in turn is a rebadged version of the overseas-market Nissan Patrol—a legendary off-roader.

As a full-size luxury SUV based on a model from a mainstream brand, the QX80 follows the same formula as the Cadillac Escalade, Lexus LX 570, and Lincoln Navigator. In size, price, and prestige, it could also be considered a rival to the Land Rover Range Rover, BMW X7, and Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, but these SUVs have more modern unibody construction.

The QX80 gets some small updates for the 2021 model year, including an improved version of Infiniti’s Smart Rearview Mirror. The Canadian trim line-up includes the base Luxe and the more highly equipped ProACTIVE grade, the latter available with seven or eight seats. Our test vehicle was the Canadian equivalent of the U.S. Sensory model, the ProACTIVE 7-passenger grade.

2021 INFINITI QX80

8/10

The 2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid aimed to redefine the minivan aesthetic, presenting a more SUV-like styling. Its wide grille and sleek LED headlamp arrays contributed to a modern look, while the redesigned sliding side doors added an assertive stance. The Sienna's exterior was marked by Toyota's renowned fit and finish, with alloy wheels ranging from 17 to 20 inches, depending on the trim. Inside, the Sienna emphasized width with horizontal lines, offering a comfortable seating position and a simple, uncluttered dashboard. The centre console was thoughtfully designed, providing ample storage and convenience features, while the second and third-row seats offered flexibility and comfort for adults.

The 2021 INFINITI QX80 showcased a blend of Nissan Armada and Infiniti styling elements, with a body-on-frame construction that emphasized its SUV roots. The QX80's front-end styling, introduced in 2018, gave it an assertive yet refined look, distinguishing it from its Nissan sibling. Standard LED lighting and large alloy wheels added to its presence. Inside, the QX80's interior closely resembled the Armada, with added luxury touches like wood trim and leather upholstery. While the dashboard and switchgear were familiar, the overall feel remained luxurious, though some buyers might have desired more exclusivity.

2021 INFINITI QX80

8/10

The 2021 Toyota Sienna Hybrid marked Toyota's first foray into hybrid minivans, featuring a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors, producing a combined 243 horsepower. Front-wheel drive was standard, with an all-wheel-drive option available across all trims. The Sienna utilized an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (CVT), which, while efficient, slightly dulled throttle response. The Sienna's handling was improved with new suspension systems, offering a comfortable ride with minimal body roll. Fuel efficiency was a highlight, with FWD models rated at 6.6 L/100 km in the city and 6.5 on the highway, while AWD models achieved 6.8 city and 6.6 highway.

The 2021 INFINITI QX80 was powered by a robust 5.6-litre V8 engine, delivering 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque, paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive was standard in Canada, providing ample power for highway overtaking. The QX80's body-on-frame construction was complemented by independent suspension and a rear auto-leveling feature, ensuring a comfortable ride. However, the SUV's handling in corners was less composed, with noticeable body roll despite the Hydraulic Body Motion Control system. The QX80 excelled in towing and off-road capabilities, with a maximum towing capacity of 3,855 kilograms.

Form and function

2021 INFINITI QX80

7/10

The 2021 Toyota Sienna excelled in convenience and functionality, with a standard third-row 60/40-split bench that easily stored into the floor. The second row offered 63.5 cm of sliding range, enhancing access to the third row. The cabin featured 16 cupholders and ample storage, while the Sienna's cargo capacity was impressive, accommodating a full four-by-eight sheet of plywood. Cargo measurements were 949 litres behind the third row, 2,129 litres behind the second, and 2,860 litres behind the first. The hybrid battery was cleverly positioned under the front seats, preserving cargo space.

The 2021 INFINITI QX80 offered a standard seven-seat configuration, with an eight-seat option on the ProACTIVE grade. Front seats were power-adjustable, though lacking in thigh support. Passenger space was competitive, with ample room in all three rows. Cargo space was 470 litres with all seats in place, 1,404 litres with the third row folded, and 2,694 litres with both the third and second rows folded. A power liftgate and power-folding third row added convenience, though the centre console storage was limited, and front-door cupholders were not optimally designed.
