Is the 2025 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — 5/5 from owners and 7.67/10 from our experts. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.

The 2025 Toyota 4Runner is aimed at you if you want a rugged SUV that can stretch into tougher adventures while adding more comfort, power, and technology than before. It is described as more composed on pavement without giving up its all-terrain identity, and its updated design keeps the 4Runner character intact while feeling more contemporary.

The main trade-offs are limited rear-seat space and some road noise from the Trailhunter’s snorkel. Those drawbacks matter most if you regularly carry passengers or spend lots of time on the highway.

With 20.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is some room to find value if you shop carefully.

Is the 2025 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The expert review also highlights that it keeps the formula shoppers have liked for years while adding more capability, power, comfort, and technology. Its new powertrains and more refined road manners suggest a more modern ownership experience than the outgoing model.

The performance notes also point to a quieter cabin and a more composed drive, which can reduce fatigue over long trips. Toyota’s reliability reputation and the model’s proven all-terrain focus both support confidence for used buyers.

If you plan to keep it for the long haul, the main ownership risk is less about basic durability and more about choosing the right trim and equipment for your needs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Toyota 4Runner?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SR5 gives you the essentials, while higher trims add more capability and equipment. The TRD Off-Road Premium, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter stand out for buyers who want stronger off-road hardware, while the Limited and Platinum lean more toward comfort and road use.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 317 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, or the Hybrid i-Force Max with 326 hp and 465 lb-ft. The hybrid is the stronger choice if you want more low-speed punch and better efficiency.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard, with frontal collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, automatic high beams, Proactive Driving Assist, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Proactive Driving Assist can feel intrusive, but it can be disabled.
• Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen is standard, and a 14-inch screen is available. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and a charging pad is offered. A digital instrument panel is included with all Hybrid variants and in most extra-cost packages on gas models.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard engine is estimated at 12.4 L/100 km in the city, 9.6 on the highway, and 11.2 combined. The Hybrid is estimated at 10.3 L/100 km city, 9.5 highway, and 9.9 combined.

Which 2025 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2025 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 8 trim levels: SR5, Limited, Platinum, TRD Off-Road Premium, TRD Pro, Trailhunter, and the hybrid versions of Limited and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point and the best fit if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned 4Runner. It gives you the core truck-based capability and standard safety tech, but it is the trim where you feel the fewest extras.
• Limited: This is the better choice if you want a more comfort-oriented 4Runner with available full-time 4WD. It suits you if you spend more time on pavement but still want the 4Runner’s rugged character.
• Platinum: This is the upscale pick for buyers who want more premium equipment and available full-time 4WD. It makes the most sense if you want a more refined daily driver.
• TRD Off-Road Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds serious off-road capability without jumping all the way to the most expensive adventure models. It is a strong fit if you want trail ability without overbuying.
• TRD Pro: This is the most capable choice for buyers who want the most impressive adventure-focused setup in the lineup. It is the trim to target if off-road performance is your priority.
• Trailhunter: This is the most specialised overland-style option, and it is the one to choose if you want the most rugged factory setup and do not mind paying for it.
• Limited Hybrid: Choose this if you want the Limited’s comfort focus with the stronger hybrid powertrain and better efficiency.
• Platinum Hybrid: Choose this if you want the most premium version with the hybrid powertrain and the strongest blend of refinement and efficiency.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the lineup, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard in Canada.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Toyota 4Runner?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some confidence if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 20.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 100 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.98% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $69,668 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $71,234 CAD sits slightly below last year's $73,419 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you if you are buying now, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about where the market is headed. If prices continue to ease, resale values could stay under pressure in the near term.

Even so, the 4Runner’s strong identity as a rugged, desirable SUV should help support demand. Buyers who want a durable, adventure-focused model often keep these vehicles on their shortlist.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2025 Toyota 4Runner does not yet have crash test results from either NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on all models and includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, automatic high beams, and Proactive Driving Assist. In Canada, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also standard.

One caveat is that Proactive Driving Assist can feel too intrusive for some drivers, though you can disable it. Because official crash testing is still pending, you should weigh the standard active-safety equipment alongside the lack of published test results.

Should I buy a 2025 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 20.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a redesigned package with more capability, power, comfort, and technology.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $56,505 CAD, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $71,234 CAD average.
• It remains a rugged, off-road-focused SUV with strong reliability and durability.

The bottom line: If you want the newest 4Runner with the biggest step forward in refinement, efficiency, and technology, the 2025 is the better long-term pick. If your priority is saving money and you still want the 4Runner’s core ruggedness, the 2024 is the more budget-friendly path.
