Is the 2024 Mazda CX-90 a good car?

Generally — the 2024 Mazda CX-90 earns a 4.33/5 user rating and an 8.00/10 expert rating, which points to a strong overall package. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Mazda positions it as an all-new three-row family SUV that is meant to be enjoyable to drive, and the data backs that up with excellent handling, a stylish design, and a premium-feeling cabin. It also offers a turbocharged straight-six engine and a plug-in hybrid option, so you get unusual powertrain choices for a family hauler.

The main trade-offs are frustrating technology and, on the PHEV, a shorter electric range than some rivals. If you want a large SUV that still feels engaging behind the wheel, this one fits that brief well.

With 32.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful value in the market.

Is the 2024 Mazda CX-90 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Mazda presents the CX-90 as a well-built, premium-leaning family SUV, and the expert data supports that impression with strong composure, solid standard safety equipment, and a powertrain lineup that is designed to deliver both performance and efficiency. The turbocharged inline-six and PHEV setup also suggest a modern mechanical package rather than an outdated one.

The performance notes point to a vehicle that feels refined and capable, while the cost-effectiveness notes indicate Mazda has paired the CX-90’s higher feature content with pricing that still sits below many luxury-brand alternatives. If you buy used, the main long-term ownership risk is that the technology may remain more frustrating than you’d like.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Mazda CX-90?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CX-90 is sold in GS, GS-L, GT, GT-P, and Signature Turbo trims, plus GS, GS-L, and GT PHEV trims. The higher trims add more upscale materials and features, while base versions are less lavish than the top models.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a turbocharged inline-six with mild-hybrid assistance and a plug-in hybrid setup. The turbo six is the more dramatic option, while the PHEV focuses more on efficiency and electric driving.
• Safety package: i-Activsense comes standard and includes blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, smart brake support with front-crossing and turn-across-traffic identification, rear cross-traffic alert, safe-exit warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Cruising and traffic support is mentioned on the top trim.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses a rotary controller rather than a touchscreen. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard, with wireless functionality on higher-level trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The PHEV is estimated at 4.2 L/100 km combined and has a 42 km electric range.

Which 2024 Mazda CX-90 trim should I buy?

The 2024 Mazda CX-90 is offered in 8 trim levels: GS, GS-L, GT, GT-P, Signature, GS PHEV, GS-L PHEV, and GT PHEV.

Here's the short version:

• GS: This is the entry point if you want the CX-90’s core strengths at the lowest price, including standard AWD, the full i-Activsense safety suite, and the Mazda driving character that makes the SUV feel smaller than it is.
• GS-L: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience while staying below the upper trims that push the price higher.
• GT: This trim is the better pick if you want a more upscale feel and more equipment without jumping all the way to the top-end models.
• GT-P: This is the sweet spot for buyers who care most about the stronger turbocharged inline-six character and want a more premium driving experience.
• Signature: Choose this if you want the most luxurious CX-90 experience, including the richest interior presentation and the most dramatic powertrain tuning.
• GS PHEV: Pick this if you want plug-in hybrid efficiency and the ability to drive on electric power for short trips.
• GS-L PHEV: This is the best-value PHEV trim if you want the plug-in setup with more comfort than the base PHEV model.
• GT PHEV: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid powertrain with a more premium feature set.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Mazda CX-90?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 374 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.48% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $40,743 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Mazda CX-90's resale value?

The current average of $40,743 CAD sits slightly below last year's $46,029 CAD.

That price movement suggests the CX-90 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of early depreciation. For a future seller, that can be a double-edged sword: you may not see the same steep drop that hit the first owner, but resale will still depend on how well the market continues to value Mazda’s premium positioning.

The good news is that the CX-90’s strong design, desirable powertrains, and upscale image should help it stay appealing to used buyers. If demand remains steady, that should support resale values better than a more ordinary family SUV.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Mazda CX-90 safe?

The 2024 Mazda CX-90 has not been crash-tested by the IIHS or NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

i-Activsense comes standard on every CX-90 and includes blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, smart brake support with front-crossing and turn-across-traffic identification, rear cross-traffic alert, safe-exit warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. On the top trim, cruising and traffic support adds lane-centring with adaptive cruise control for a hands-on driver-assist setup.

Mazda’s safety equipment is a clear strength here, even if the crash-test record for this model year is not yet established. That means you should still value the standard ADAS package highly when comparing used examples.

Should I buy a 2024 Mazda CX-90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.48% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2024 brings an all-new platform, rear-wheel-drive architecture, and a turbocharged straight-six or PHEV powertrain.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $42,588 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $40,743 CAD average.
• It keeps the unusual inline-six or plug-in hybrid powertrain choices while adding a more refined overall package.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2024 is the smarter starting point because prices have already softened and the core strengths are intact. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2025 is the cleaner secondary path.
