Is the 2024 Mazda CX-90 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Mazda presents the CX-90 as a well-built, composure-focused three-row SUV with strong driving manners and a premium feel. The expert assessment also highlights terrific powertrains and a refined overall package, which supports confidence in day-to-day ownership.

The powertrain and chassis tuning suggest a vehicle built to handle family duty without feeling strained, and the standard all-wheel drive and eight-speed automatic add to that sense of durability. The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that the technology may remain frustrating if you prefer simpler, more intuitive controls.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Mazda CX-90?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CX-90’s trim walk matters because higher trims bring a more upscale cabin, including brown suede upholstery, wood inlays, and a more premium overall look, while lower trims will not feel as luxurious.
• Powertrain: You can shop either the turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine or the plug-in hybrid setup. The turbo I6 is the more dramatic choice, while the PHEV prioritises efficiency and uses a 17.8-kWh battery and a 68-kW electric motor.
• Safety package: i-Activsense is standard on every CX-90 and includes blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, smart brake support with front-crossing and turn-across-traffic identification, rear cross-traffic alert, safe-exit warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Cruising and traffic support is also mentioned on the top trim.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses a rotary controller and hard buttons instead of a touchscreen. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard, with wireless functionality on higher-level trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The CX-90 PHEV is estimated at 4.2 Le/100 km in combined driving and has a total driving range of 747 km. Its electric-only range is 42 km.

Which 2024 Mazda CX-90 trim should I buy?

The 2024 Mazda CX-90 is offered in 8 trim levels: Turbo GS, Turbo GS-L, Turbo GT, Turbo GT-P, Turbo Signature, PHEV GS, PHEV GS-L, and PHEV GT.

Here's the short version:

• Turbo GS: This is the entry point if you want the CX-90’s core strengths at the lowest price, including standard all-wheel drive, the eight-speed automatic, and the full i-Activsense safety suite.
• Turbo GS-L: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of equipment and value, since it builds on the base model without jumping straight to the highest-priced versions.
• Turbo GT: This trim suits you if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay for additional comfort and convenience features.
• Turbo GT-P: This is the best-value choice for shoppers who want the stronger turbocharged inline six and a more premium driving experience without going all the way to the top trim.
• Turbo Signature: Choose this if you want the most luxurious gas-powered CX-90, with the richest interior presentation and the most dramatic engine character.
• PHEV GS: Pick this if you want plug-in hybrid efficiency and the CX-90’s standard safety and AWD hardware in a more accessible package.
• PHEV GS-L: This is the better PHEV choice if you want extra equipment while keeping the plug-in hybrid powertrain.
• PHEV GT: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid model with a more premium feature set and are willing to pay more for it.

i-Activsense is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up trims for the core safety package.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. The current trend suggests the market has adjusted downward from last year’s level, so resale expectations should be based on a more realistic, lower benchmark.

Should I buy a 2024 Mazda CX-90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.61% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It brings an all-new platform, strong handling, and a turbocharged straight-six or PHEV powertrain.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $43,055 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $40,887 CAD average.
• It adds a more upscale-feeling package with unusual powertrain choices and impressive safety ratings.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2024 if you want the better price and the same core appeal: style, power, and engaging driving manners in a three-row SUV. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2025 is the better secondary path for buyers who want the latest version and can accept the higher asking price.
