Why it stands out
The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe stands out immediately for its fully redesigned look, which brings a bold, blocky profile and a stance that gives it a much more distinctive presence than before. That redesign is not just about appearance: the Santa Fe also has a longer wheelbase, standard third-row seats, and new premium amenities, including a “terrace” approach to passenger and cargo space. Together, those changes make it feel like a more ambitious and more versatile family SUV.
It also appeals through its mix of technology and powertrain choice. The available strengths called out for this model include stylish design, multiple powertrain options, and impressive technology. At the same time, it is not without compromises, since the third row is described as cramped, performance as pedestrian, and top trims as expensive. Even so, the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe’s redesign is presented as successful, especially for buyers who want a vehicle that feels fresh, practical, and well equipped.

We bought this car primarily because of the value, in terms of what we get for the money. We looked at many other manufacturers like Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Kia, Nissan and the Hyundai Santa Fe, in the Calligraphy trim level had the most and best features for the price.

The car is a great upgrade from years before. The third row is very nice and a great size for teenagers. The ride is smooth and quiet.

It’s so smooth when you drive and all the features are wonderful. Very comfortable and lots of leg room for my 5’10-6’7 family. Great price for an SUV. It’s a 4 cylinder, but the turbo allows it to get up and go while passing or entering a freeway.

Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?
Yes — the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating.
The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Technology.
Its redesign gives you a bold, blocky profile, a longer wheelbase, standard third-row seating, and a more versatile family-SUV layout. The trade-offs are that the third row is cramped and top trims get expensive, while performance is described as pedestrian.
The Santa Fe’s 30.6% good or great deal share suggests there are still worthwhile listings to find if you shop carefully.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Santa Fe is presented as a well-equipped, family-focused SUV with standard advanced safety and driver-assistance features across the lineup, and Hyundai’s driver-monitoring system is included on every trim. Its powertrain and cabin technology are also described as polished and easy to live with.
The performance notes point to smooth, mostly stable road manners, which supports the impression of a vehicle built for everyday use rather than drama. The cost-effectiveness notes also highlight a strong value proposition in the middle of the trim range.
If you buy used, the main long-term ownership risk is choosing a trim that adds complexity and cost without giving you the features you’ll actually use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Preferred trim includes the core safety and convenience equipment, while higher trims add more premium features such as a 360-degree camera, blind-spot view monitor, parking sensors, remote automatic parking, and a head-up display. The XRT adds dark exterior treatment and all-terrain hardware, while the Ultimate Calligraphy and NHL Edition bring the most upscale cabin and tech content.
- Powertrain: In Canada, the Preferred and limited-run NHL Edition use a 1.6-litre turbocharged hybrid with a six-speed automatic, while other trims use a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. AWD is standard, and the XRT adds off-road modes plus extra ground clearance and all-terrain tyres.
- Safety package: The base Preferred trim includes a reversing camera, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, forward collision-avoidance assist, intersection assist, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic emergency braking, safe-exit assist, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, driver-attention monitoring with hands-off alert, and a rear-occupant reminder system. Higher trims add more camera and parking tech, while the Ultimate Calligraphy and NHL Edition add a widescreen head-up display and upgraded collision-avoidance systems.
- Infotainment: The cabin centres on a curved panoramic display, while the Preferred trim uses a simpler 12.3-inch touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto are standard across the lineup, and the system also includes a 12-speaker Bose stereo, dynamic voice recognition, and six USB ports.
- Fuel efficiency: The Santa Fe Hybrid is rated at 6.8 L/100 km city, 6.9 highway, and 6.9 combined. The gas powertrain is rated at 12.1 L/100 km city, 8.8 highway, and 10.6 combined, while the XRT is rated at 12.2/9.1/10.8.
Which 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?
The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 5 trim levels: Preferred, Preferred with the Trend package, XRT, Luxury, Ultimate Calligraphy.
Here's the short version:
- Preferred: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core safety suite, wireless smartphone integration, and the simpler 12.3-inch touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned Santa Fe.
- Preferred with the Trend package: This is the best-value choice for most Canadians, because it adds the hybrid powertrain plus desirable upgrades like 20-inch alloy wheels, leatherette upholstery, a dual-pane power sunroof, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a wireless charging pad, third-row USB ports, Hyundai Digital Key, and upgraded ultrasonic rear occupant alert.
- XRT: Choose this if you want the more rugged-looking version with dark exterior trim, extra ground clearance, all-terrain tyres, off-road modes, and added towing capacity.
- Luxury: This trim is the step up for you if you want more convenience and parking tech, including a 360-degree camera, blind-spot view monitor, rain-sensing wipers, parking sensors, reverse parking collision assist, and remote automatic parking.
- Ultimate Calligraphy: This is the most luxurious version, with the biggest wheels, the most upscale cabin presentation, a widescreen head-up display, and upgraded safety tech.
The safety package starts with the Preferred trim and expands meaningfully as you move up the range, especially from Luxury onward.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.
- Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 451 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.56% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $42,022 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe's resale value?
The current average of $42,022 CAD sits slightly below last year's $48,059 CAD.
That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the current softness means you should expect more competition from similarly priced listings unless demand tightens. The good news is that a well-equipped, redesigned SUV with broad appeal can still hold buyer interest if it remains clean, well maintained, and sensibly priced.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?
The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe has not yet been crash-tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Santa Fe’s standard safety suite is extensive, starting with a reversing camera, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, forward collision-avoidance assist, intersection assist, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic emergency braking, safe-exit assist, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, driver-attention monitoring with hands-off alert, and a rear-occupant reminder system. Higher trims add a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot view monitor, parking sensors, reverse parking collision assist, remote automatic parking, and on the top trims a widescreen head-up display with upgraded collision-avoidance systems.
One caveat from the road test is that the traffic-sign recognition system occasionally misread route signs as speed limit signs.
Should I buy a 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.56% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesign brings a longer wheelbase, standard third-row seating, and a more versatile family-SUV layout.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $30,382 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $42,022 CAD average.
- It remains a strong-value two-row SUV with standard safety features and easy-to-use technology.
Consider the 2025 if:
- At $45,127 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $42,022 CAD average.
- It builds on the bold redesign with more interior space and added family-friendly features.
The bottom line: If you want the newest redesign and a broader family-SUV layout, the 2024 is the main target. If your priority is lower purchase price, the 2023 is the better value play, while the 2025 makes sense if you want the latest version and are comfortable paying more.
