Why it stands out
The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe stands out immediately for its fully redesigned look, which brings a bold, blocky profile and a stance that gives it a much more distinctive presence than before. That redesign is not just about appearance: the Santa Fe also has a longer wheelbase, standard third-row seats, and new premium amenities, including a “terrace” approach to passenger and cargo space. Together, those changes make it feel like a more ambitious and more versatile family SUV.
It also appeals through its mix of technology and powertrain choice. The available strengths called out for this model include stylish design, multiple powertrain options, and impressive technology. At the same time, it is not without compromises, since the third row is described as cramped, performance as pedestrian, and top trims as expensive. Even so, the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe’s redesign is presented as successful, especially for buyers who want a vehicle that feels fresh, practical, and well equipped.

We bought this car primarily because of the value, in terms of what we get for the money. We looked at many other manufacturers like Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Kia, Nissan and the Hyundai Santa Fe, in the Calligraphy trim level had the most and best features for the price.

The car is a great upgrade from years before. The third row is very nice and a great size for teenagers. The ride is smooth and quiet.

It’s so smooth when you drive and all the features are wonderful. Very comfortable and lots of leg room for my 5’10-6’7 family. Great price for an SUV. It’s a 4 cylinder, but the turbo allows it to get up and go while passing or entering a freeway.

Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?
Yes — the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Technology.
The Santa Fe’s redesign gives it a bold, blocky profile and a more distinctive presence, while the longer wheelbase and standard third-row seats make it a more versatile family SUV. It also brings a strong mix of technology and multiple powertrain options, which helps it feel fresh and well equipped.
The main trade-offs are a cramped third row and pedestrian performance, and top trims can get expensive.
With 33.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still enough market flexibility to find a competitive example.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Santa Fe is presented as a well-rounded family SUV with standard advanced safety features and a broad equipment spread, which supports confidence for everyday use. Its available hybrid and gas powertrains also give you some choice depending on how you plan to drive.
The performance notes point to smooth, mostly stable road manners, with few misses in acceleration, throttle response, or shifting. Hyundai also includes driver monitoring across the lineup, which adds another layer of oversight for daily use.
If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is that higher-trim complexity can mean more features to inspect carefully before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Preferred trim includes a reversing camera, adaptive cruise control, forward collision-avoidance assist, intersection assist, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic emergency braking, safe-exit assist, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, driver-attention monitoring, and a rear-occupant reminder system. Higher trims add more convenience and safety equipment, so check carefully for feature gaps if you are comparing a lower-spec example.
- Powertrain: In Canada, the hybrid powertrain is the entry-level choice on Preferred models and uses a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with a six-speed automatic. Other models use a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. All-wheel drive is standard.
- Safety package: The Santa Fe includes Hyundai’s driver monitoring system across the lineup. Above Preferred, you get an upgraded rear-occupant reminder system, forward-attention warning, and side-view mirrors with turn signals. From Luxury, you also get a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot view monitor, rain-sensing windshield wipers, parking sensors, reverse parking collision assist, and remote automatic parking. Ultimate Calligraphy and NHL Edition add a widescreen head-up display plus upgraded blind-spot and forward collision avoidance systems.
- Infotainment: The cabin centres on a curved panoramic display, and wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto come standard across the lineup. The system also includes a 12-speaker Bose stereo, dynamic voice recognition, and six USB ports. The Preferred trim uses a simpler 12.3-inch touchscreen.
- Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is rated at 6.8 L/100 km in city driving, 6.9 on the highway, and 6.9 combined. The gas powertrain is rated at 12.1 L/100 km city, 8.8 highway, and 10.6 combined. The XRT is rated at 12.2/9.1/10.8 L/100 km.
Which 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?
The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 5 trim levels: Preferred, Preferred with the Trend package, XRT, Luxury, and Ultimate Calligraphy.
Here's the short version:
- Preferred: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core safety and tech package, including wireless smartphone integration and a broad suite of driver-assistance features. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the extra comfort and convenience upgrades.
- Preferred with the Trend package: This is the best-value choice for most Canadians. It adds the more fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain plus 20-inch alloy wheels, leatherette upholstery, a dual-pane power sunroof, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a wireless charging pad, third-row USB ports, Hyundai Digital Key, and upgraded ultrasonic rear occupant alert.
- XRT: Choose this if you want the more rugged setup. It adds off-road modes, extra ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and more towing capacity, making it the right pick if you plan to head beyond paved roads.
- Luxury: This trim is the step up for buyers who want more convenience and parking assistance, including the 360-degree camera system, blind-spot view monitor, parking sensors, reverse parking collision assist, and remote automatic parking.
- Ultimate Calligraphy: This is the most luxurious version, with the widescreen head-up display and upgraded blind-spot and forward collision avoidance systems. It suits you if you want the most premium Santa Fe experience and are comfortable paying more for it.
The safety package is strongest once you move above Preferred, especially if you want the added camera and parking features.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.
- Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 448 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.51% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $41,958 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe's resale value?
The current average of $41,958 CAD sits slightly below last year's $47,956 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests buyers currently have more leverage, which can make it harder for sellers to hold firm on asking prices. If you plan to sell later, the current market trend points to a model that may need competitive pricing to move quickly.
The Santa Fe’s strong equipment list and broad appeal as a family SUV should still help it attract interest from used buyers. A well-kept example with desirable features is likely to remain easier to sell than a stripped or poorly equipped one.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?
The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe has not yet been crash-tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Santa Fe comes standard with a reversing camera, adaptive cruise control, forward collision-avoidance assist, intersection assist, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic emergency braking, safe-exit assist, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, driver-attention monitoring, and a rear-occupant reminder system. Above Preferred, Hyundai adds an upgraded rear-occupant reminder system, forward-attention warning, and side-view mirrors with turn signals.
From Luxury, you also get a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot view monitor, rain-sensing windshield wipers, parking sensors, reverse parking collision assist, and remote automatic parking. Ultimate Calligraphy and NHL Edition add a widescreen head-up display plus upgraded blind-spot and forward collision avoidance systems.
One caveat to keep in mind is that the traffic-sign recognition system occasionally misread route signs as speed limit signs during testing.
Should I buy a 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.51% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2024 brings a full redesign with a longer wheelbase, standard third-row seating, and a more versatile family-focused layout.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $30,262 CAD, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $41,958 CAD average.
- It remains a practical value-focused SUV with strong standard safety and easy-to-use technology.
Consider the 2025 if:
- At $45,131 CAD, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $41,958 CAD average.
- It builds on the bold redesign with more interior space and added family-friendly features.
The bottom line: If you want the newest design, standard third-row seating, and the strongest mix of tech and versatility, the 2024 is the one to target. If price matters most, the 2023 is the smarter value play, while the 2025 makes sense if you want to spend more for the latest version of the same formula.
