Is the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, advanced features, and strong value, and many also like the luxury-SUV feel, technology, and safety equipment. The review summary also points to a smooth, enjoyable driving experience, with positive feedback around AWD models and overall drivability.

The trade-offs are straightforward: the base engine is described as underwhelming, and there’s no N-Line performance variant. That makes it a better fit if you want a practical, well-equipped SUV rather than a sportier one.

The performance notes also support a confidence-inspiring ownership experience, with smooth acceleration, composed handling, and no undue harshness during the test drive. Hyundai’s maintenance and warranty coverage further help reduce long-term ownership risk for used buyers.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Preferred trim gives you the core value story, including LED headlights, heated front seats, cloth seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, and a wide set of standard driver-assistance features. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience, but the base model already covers the essentials well.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, with the naturally aspirated version making 191 horsepower and the turbocharged version making 281 hp. The turbo engine brings stronger passing power and quicker acceleration, while the non-turbo setup is the more basic choice.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian, cyclist, and junction-turning detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, driver monitoring, safe-exit assist, and a rear-seat reminder system. Highway Driving Assist comes standard on Ultimate Calligraphy.
• Infotainment: All trims get a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation and traffic information, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, BlueLink connected services, voice recognition, and dual front and rear USB ports. Wireless device charging is limited to the top two trims, and the Ultimate Calligraphy adds a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The non-turbo version returns 9.9 L/100 km combined, while the turbo version returns 10.0 L/100 km combined.

Which 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?

The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 4 trim levels: Preferred, Urban, Luxury, and Ultimate Calligraphy.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the best-value starting point if you want the Santa Fe’s core strengths without paying for extras you may not need. You still get the standard safety suite, heated front seats, and the 10.25-inch touchscreen, which makes it the trim most buyers should start with.
• Urban: This trim adds the turbocharged engine, leatherette seating surfaces, and a power-adjustable passenger seat, so it suits you if you want more punch and a more upscale feel.
• Luxury: This trim is the step up for buyers who want a more premium cabin, including the fully digital instrument cluster and proximity-activated smart liftgate.
• Ultimate Calligraphy: This is the most luxurious choice, with Nappa leather seats, a surround-view camera, blind view monitor system, wireless device charging, and the premium audio system. It’s the right pick if you want the most features and the strongest comfort focus.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but Highway Driving Assist is reserved for Ultimate Calligraphy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 437 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.36% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $29,694 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe's resale value?

The current average of $29,694 CAD sits slightly below last year's $33,881 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Santa Fe easier to buy now but may also limit near-term upside for a future seller. If you purchase at the current average or below, you’re starting from a more favourable cost basis than buyers were a year ago.

Because the model continues to attract strong interest for its value, safety, and technology, demand should remain reasonably steady. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?

The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe earns Top Safety Pick+ recognition from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision avoidance with pedestrian, cyclist, and junction-turning detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, driver monitoring, safe-exit assist, and a rear-seat reminder system. Highway Driving Assist comes standard on Ultimate Calligraphy.

That broad standard suite is a major strength, and the crash-test results reinforce it. The main trim-level caveat is that Highway Driving Assist is not standard across the lineup.

Should I buy a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.36% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the value-focused, safety-rich formula while adding a small horsepower increase for the base engine.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $41,109 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $29,694 CAD average.
• It brings a fully redesigned look with a longer wheelbase and standard third-row seats.

The bottom line: If you want the better value proposition, the 2023 is the smarter buy. If you’re willing to pay more for a full redesign and extra space, the 2024 is the more dramatic upgrade. Price-sensitive buyers should start with the 2023, while shoppers prioritising the newest design may prefer the next year.
