Is the 2023 Honda CR-V a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Honda CR-V earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its smooth ride, quality interior, and great features. They also like its safety and economy, and the model’s everyday comfort and practicality come through strongly in the overview. The main trade-offs are the irritating transmission, uninspired styling, and lack of technological innovation.

If you want a roomy compact crossover that is easy to live with and well suited to daily family use, this CR-V fits that brief well. With 27.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Honda CR-V reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers highlighting the CR-V’s smooth ride, quality interior, and strong economy. The expert review also describes it as a vehicle you can count on for everyday use, with refined ride quality and well-sorted controls that support long-term confidence.

Honda’s first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps soften early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether you can live with the CVT’s behaviour and the model’s higher pricing.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda CR-V?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The EX-L stands out with leather-wrapped seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a larger touchscreen, a power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a power rear liftgate, and front and rear parking sensors. Lower grades use cloth upholstery and a smaller touchscreen, while some B trims omit blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Powertrain: Gas-only models use a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT. It is strong enough for the class, but the transmission can drone under hard acceleration.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a seatbelt reminder system, a rear-seat reminder system, a driver monitoring system, traffic sign recognition, and Traffic Jam Assist. Some B trims omit blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: Most trims get a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The EX-L upgrades to a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless charging, and an upgraded eight-speaker sound system. The top Touring Hybrid is required for the Bose premium sound system and navigation with real-time traffic.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the test vehicle should see 8.4 L/100 km in combined driving, and the review team averaged 8.1 L/100 km on a mountainous route.

Which 2023 Honda CR-V trim should I buy?

The 2023 Honda CR-V is offered in 4 trim levels: LX-B, Sport, EX-L, Touring Hybrid.

Here's the short version:

• LX-B: This is the entry point, but some B trims omit blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, so it makes the most sense if you are focused on keeping the purchase price down and can live with fewer features.
• Sport: This trim adds more equipment than the base model and sits in the middle of the range, making it a sensible step up if you want a better balance of features and value.
• EX-L: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it brings the larger 9-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, wireless charging, a power rear liftgate, and more upscale cabin touches without jumping all the way to the top hybrid model.
• Touring Hybrid: Choose this if you want the most equipment and are willing to pay for it, since it is the top-of-the-line hybrid trim and the only one that gets the Bose premium sound system and navigation with real-time traffic.

Honda’s safety package is broadly strong across the range, but some B trims leave out blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda CR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 917 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.20% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,295 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Honda CR-V's resale value?

The current average of $32,295 CAD sits slightly below last year's $35,569 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to give used buyers some leverage, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about pricing. Because the CR-V remains a popular compact SUV with strong practicality and broad appeal, it should still attract steady interest when you eventually resell it. The softer current pricing may help you buy more favourably now, but it also means there is less room for a dramatic appreciation later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Honda CR-V safe?

The 2023 Honda CR-V earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centring assist, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a seatbelt reminder system, a rear-seat reminder system, a driver monitoring system, traffic sign recognition, and Traffic Jam Assist.

One caveat is that some B trims in Canada omit blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The review also notes that lane-centring assist can feel uncertain in some highway situations and can add an artificial feel to the steering.

Should I buy a 2023 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.20% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 brings a redesigned cabin, new infotainment systems, new safety features, and the first Canadian availability of the hybrid powertrain.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned CR-V with stronger tech, a roomier feel, and broad everyday appeal, the 2023 is the right target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare it with nearby model years to see whether a lower purchase price outweighs the newer model’s added equipment and broader appeal.
