Is the 2023 Toyota RAV4 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Toyota RAV4 earns a 4.62/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners commonly praise its comfortable ride, good fuel economy, and spacious interior, and many also value its reliable performance and strong value for money. For shoppers who want a practical everyday compact SUV rather than something built around excitement, that mix fits the RAV4’s family-friendly, dependable character well. The main trade-offs are that some drivers find it underpowered and less impressive on ride quality than rivals, and the expert review also notes fairly pedestrian performance and less space than some competitors.

The market also looks healthy, with 32.0% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2023 Toyota RAV4 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback repeatedly points to reliable performance, and the model is also described as dependable and trouble-free in the broader ownership conversation. On the expert side, the RAV4 is framed as a vehicle you can count on for everyday use, with a reputation for long-term usefulness rather than drama. Toyota’s three-year/30,000-kilometre basic warranty and five-year/100,000-kilometre powertrain warranty are respectable for the segment.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about major surprises and more about accepting a vehicle that prioritises consistency over excitement.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota RAV4?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE, XLE, Trail, and Limited each bring a different mix of equipment. The LE is the most basic, while the Limited adds the most premium touches, including ventilated front seats, a larger touchscreen, and more upscale cabin features. If you want the best value, the XLE is the trim to focus on because it adds meaningful comfort upgrades without jumping all the way to the top end.
• Powertrain: You get a single gas-only setup for 2023: a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard, and Toyota adds a Snow drive mode. The trade-off is that performance is more adequate than lively.
• Safety package: The RAV4 uses Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, which includes Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam LED headlights, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. These features are standard across the lineup.
• Infotainment: A standard 8.0-inch touchscreen brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice command, and over-the-air updates. The Limited upgrades to a 10.5-inch screen, while the Trail does not get the upgraded multimedia system.
• Fuel efficiency: The LE AWD is rated at 7.9 L/100 km combined, the XLE AWD at 8.0 L/100 km combined, and the Trail and Limited AWD at 8.4 L/100 km combined.

Which 2023 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, Trail, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, but it still gives you standard all-wheel drive, heated front seats, and the full safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the RAV4 without giving up the essentials.
• XLE: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds a heated steering wheel and dual-zone automatic climate control, while keeping the price and efficiency close to the LE. If you want the sweet spot between comfort and cost, start here.
• Trail: This trim adds the more rugged-looking styling, blacked-out exterior details, orange interior accents, and a wireless charging pad. It suits you if you want a more distinctive appearance, but it is not a true off-road model.
• Limited: This is the most upscale version, with the larger 10.5-inch touchscreen, JBL audio, a 12.3-inch driver display, ventilated front seats, memory settings, and heated rear seats. Choose it if you want the most comfort and technology.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota RAV4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 794 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.98% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $34,514 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota RAV4's resale value?

The current average of $34,946 CAD sits slightly below last year's $36,021 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a little more favourable for buyers, which can make it harder for future sellers to command top dollar immediately. Even so, the RAV4’s broad appeal, practical reputation, and strong ownership satisfaction should help support demand over time. If you buy well now, you are still starting from a model with solid name recognition and steady shopper interest.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Toyota updated the infotainment system for 2023, which improves one of the model’s weaker points.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $32,195 CAD, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $34,946 CAD average.
• It offers a roomy, flexible interior and a strong safety package.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $36,940 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $34,946 CAD average.
• It adds to the RAV4’s reputation for dependable, practical long-term usefulness.

The bottom line: If you want the refreshed infotainment and a strong mix of safety, practicality, and ownership satisfaction, the 2023 is the best all-around pick. If your priority is spending less, the 2022 is the smarter value play; if you want to pay more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2024 is the next step up.
