Is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty a good car?

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty earns an 8.5/10 expert rating, and it is described as an exceptionally well-rounded heavy-duty pickup that balances capability, technology, and trim variety.

The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

It is a strong fit if you want serious towing and hauling ability without giving up everyday usability, and the wide trim range means you can match the truck to both your needs and your budget. The trade-offs are that it can get expensive fast and its engines are thirsty, while its wide turning radius can make tight manoeuvres more demanding.

26.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty reliable?

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty is presented as a modernised, thoughtfully updated heavy-duty truck with straightforward character, powerful engines, and technology that is easy to live with.

Its powertrain is described as lively and well managed, with the 10-speed automatic keeping the diesel in its optimal powerband and helping the truck feel responsive for its size. The truck’s work-focused tech and broad trim spread also support the idea that it is built to handle demanding use without feeling outdated.

Ford’s towing and convenience features, including Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, Pro Trailer Backup Assist, and onboard scales, add practical confidence for regular work use. If you plan to keep one long term, the main ownership risk is that heavy-duty capability, high output, and premium trim content can make maintenance and running costs add up over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is a work truck but still includes an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the XLT adds cloth upholstery, heated front seats, an integrated trailer brake controller, and other comfort upgrades. If you want more everyday comfort, the Lariat brings leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, wireless device charging, a fully digital instrument cluster, and a larger 12-inch touchscreen.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 6.8-litre gas V8, a 7.3-litre V8, a 6.7-litre PowerStroke turbodiesel V8, or a high-output PowerStroke turbodiesel. The diesel engines deliver the strongest towing-focused performance, while the 10-speed automatic is tuned to keep power delivery smooth and usable.
• Safety package: Ford CoPilot 360 starts at the XLT trim and can include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centring assist, traffic sign recognition, and a 360-degree parking camera system. Lower trims do not get the full suite.
• Infotainment: The base setup is an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims can get a 12-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, plus a logical layout and redundant physical controls.
• Fuel efficiency: In combined driving, the high-output diesel returned 13.1 L/100 km. A crowdsourced source cited around 21 L/100 km for the 6.8-litre gas engine, 19 to 21 L/100 km for the 7.3-litre gas engine, and 14 to 18 L/100 km for the 6.7-litre diesel engine.

Which 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty trim should I buy?

The 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most affordable way into the lineup, and it still gives you useful basics like the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. It makes sense if you want a true work truck and do not need luxury features.
• XLT: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds heated front seats, cloth upholstery, an integrated trailer brake controller, and more convenience without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Lariat: This is the sweet spot if you want a more modern cabin, with leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, a digital instrument cluster, and the larger 12-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone integration.
• King Ranch: This trim leans into luxury-truck character with distinctive styling, premium leather, an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, auxiliary switches, and towing-friendly equipment such as fifth-wheel prep.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want similar comfort to the King Ranch but with a more upscale, cosmopolitan look and features like power-deploying running boards and a powered tailgate.
• Limited: This is the top-end choice if you want nearly everything available, including max-recline seats, a dual-panel sunroof, and unique styling inside and out.

Starting at the XLT, Ford CoPilot 360 brings the core driver-assistance features, but the exact equipment depends on trim and option content.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 26.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 151 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 20.03% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $62,531 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty's resale value?

The current average of $64,218 CAD sits slightly below last year's $80,300 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who purchased when prices were higher. For resale, the strongest trucks will likely be the ones with desirable trims, useful towing equipment, and clean histories.

Is the 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford CoPilot 360 is the main driver-assistance suite, and depending on trim it can include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centring assist, traffic sign recognition, and a 360-degree parking camera system. For a truck this large, the parking camera system is especially useful, and Ford also offers trailer-focused safety tools such as trailer blind-spot monitoring and a backup camera for when the tailgate is lowered.

Should I buy a 2023 Ford F-250 Super Duty or consider a different year?
