How much does the 2023 Ford Escape cost?

There are 558 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Ford Escape a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 5/5, and the expert rating is 7.2/10. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its performance, interior comfort, and modern features, while also highlighting its smooth handling, fuel efficiency, and practicality. In use, it suits you well if you want a comfortable, stylish compact crossover with strong technology and an available powerful engine.

The main trade-offs are that it can feel cramped for some shoppers and priced on the higher end of the segment. It also comes across as less polished in places, with interior materials that feel cheap and too much wind noise.

With 33.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Ford Escape reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels reliable, dependable, and trouble-free, with praise for its long-term usefulness and everyday confidence. The expert review also describes the Escape as a good car to drive for long periods, with brakes that offer very predictable and linear stopping power.

Ford’s first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright dependability and more about whether you can live with the cabin’s cheaper-feeling materials and higher running costs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Escape?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim starts the range, while higher trims add a larger screen and more upscale equipment. The top trims bring a more premium look, but the base version leaves you with fewer convenience and tech features.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder with 180 horsepower and a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder with 250 horsepower. The smaller engine can be paired with FWD or AWD, while the stronger engine is AWD-only and better for passing and merging.
• Safety package: Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. Co-Pilot360 2.0 adds adaptive cruise control, road sign recognition, lane-centring technology, and a surround-view camera.
• Infotainment: Lower trims get an 8-inch touchscreen, while all trims can be equipped with a 13.2-inch screen, standard on the Platinum and ST-Line Elite. Sync 4 supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wi-fi hotspot can be enabled with a subscription.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-litre turbo model is rated at 10.2 L/100 km in the city, 7.6 on the highway, and 9.1 combined. The 1.5-litre FWD version returns 8.9 L/100 km city, 6.9 highway, and 8.0 combined.

Which 2023 Ford Escape trim should I buy?

The 2023 Ford Escape is offered in 5 trim levels: Active, ST-Line, ST-Line Select, Platinum, and ST-Line Elite.

Here's the short version:

• Active: This is the entry point if you want the Escape’s core design, standard safety tech, and the lowest starting price. It makes sense if you want the model’s basics without paying for the larger screen or stronger engine.
• ST-Line: This is the first step up if you want a sportier appearance and a better-equipped feel without jumping too far in price. It’s the trim to consider if you want a balanced mix of value and style.
• ST-Line Select: This is the best-value choice if you want the 2.0-litre engine, since that powertrain starts here. It’s the trim that most clearly unlocks the Escape’s stronger passing power.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want a more upscale presentation and the larger 13.2-inch screen as standard. It suits you if cabin tech and a more premium feel matter more than keeping costs down.
• ST-Line Elite: This is the most fully equipped version, with the 13.2-inch screen standard and the strongest feature set in the range. It’s best if you want the top-spec Escape and are willing to pay for it.

Co-Pilot360 is standard across the range, while Co-Pilot360 2.0 is the more advanced safety upgrade.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Escape?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 558 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.89% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $26,013 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Ford Escape's resale value?

The current average of $26,059 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,921 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Escape has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilises. If you buy at the current average or below, you may have less downside left than a shopper who paid closer to the prior-year level. Strong demand for well-equipped, tech-forward compact crossovers can also help support resale interest.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Ford Escape safe?

The 2023 Ford Escape earns five-star ratings in frontal- and side-crash tests, and four-star ratings in the rollover test from NHTSA. It also received a Marginal result in the IIHS updated side-impact test, while earning Good in the rest of the IIHS evaluations.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford’s standard Co-Pilot360 suite includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. Co-Pilot360 2.0 adds adaptive cruise control, road sign recognition, lane-centring technology, and a surround-view camera.

The main caveat is the IIHS side-impact result, which keeps it from earning a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ designation.

Should I buy a 2023 Ford Escape or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.89% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert highlight: it pairs an available powerful engine with impressive safety and infotainment technology.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $27,820 CAD, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $26,059 CAD average.
• It carries over without major changes after the 2023 makeover.

The bottom line: If you want the better-value buy, the 2023 is the smarter starting point because it already reflects the refreshed design and comes at a lower average price. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2023 gives you the same core appeal without paying the newer-year premium.
