Is the 2023 Toyota RAV4 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Toyota RAV4 earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

In use, that makes it a sensible fit if you want a mainstream compact SUV that leans toward dependable everyday transportation rather than flash. The trade-offs are that it can feel underpowered and the ride quality does not satisfy everyone. Even so, the market still shows healthy interest, with 30.0% of listings marked as good or great deals.

The expert review also frames it as a vehicle that avoids major black marks, which supports the impression of trouble-free ownership. Toyota’s three-year/30,000-kilometre basic warranty and five-year/100,000-kilometre powertrain warranty add some reassurance for used buyers. For long-term ownership, the main risk is more about living with modest performance and refinement than worrying about major dependability concerns.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota RAV4?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE is the entry point, while the Limited adds the most premium equipment, including ventilated seats and a more upscale feel. The Trail sits in the middle and adds a more rugged look, but it is more style than substance.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre four-cylinder gas engine with 203 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic transmission. It is competent, but acceleration is not its strong suit.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard, along with lane-departure warning with steering assist, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam LED headlights, pre-collision braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: A standard 8.0-inch touchscreen includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice command, and over-the-air updates. The Limited gets a 10.5-inch screen.
• Fuel efficiency: The LE AWD is rated at 8.7 L/100 km in the city, 6.9 on the highway, and 7.9 combined. The XLE AWD is rated at 8.8 L/100 km city, 7.1 highway, and 8.0 combined. Trail and Limited AWD models are rated at 9.5 L/100 km city, 7.1 highway, and 8.4 combined.

Which 2023 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, Trail, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the value-focused starting point, and it gives you the core RAV4 formula with standard AWD, Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, wireless smartphone integration, and the essential everyday features most shoppers need.
• XLE: This is the best-value choice for many buyers because it adds a more complete comfort and convenience package, including a heated steering wheel and dual-zone automatic climate control.
• Trail: Choose this if you want the more rugged-looking middle trim with unique styling touches and a more distinctive appearance.
• Limited: This is the most upscale choice, with the larger touchscreen, JBL audio, a larger driver display, and the most premium seating features.

Safety equipment is standard across the lineup, but the Limited is the trim that brings the most premium tech and comfort upgrades.

The current average of $34,762 CAD sits slightly below last year's $35,416 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more selectively today. • Price trend: Prices have softened 1.85% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
