What should I look for when buying a used 2022 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2022 RAM 1500 is available in Quad Cab and Crew Cab body styles, with a standard 6-foot, 4-inch cargo box and an available 5-foot, 7-inch box on Crew Cab models. Higher trims bring more upscale materials and equipment, while lower trims may leave out some of the comfort and convenience features that make this truck feel especially polished.
• Powertrain: You can find a standard 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 with eTorque, an available 5.7-litre Hemi V8 with or without eTorque, and an EcoDiesel turbocharged 3.0-litre diesel V6. The diesel is the efficiency-focused choice, but it comes at a premium.
• Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert are available starting from the Big Horn trims. Higher trims can add automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability through the Advanced Safety Group.
• Infotainment: Lower trims get an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims can have a 12-inch display. Uconnect 5 is optional on lower trims and standard from the Sport grade, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included.
• Fuel efficiency: The EcoDiesel test truck was rated at 9.7 L/100 km combined, and the test loop returned 9.5 L/100 km.

Which 2022 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2022 RAM 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Longhorn, Limited, TRX.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the RAM 1500’s core capability at the lowest cost, but you should expect the fewest comfort and convenience features.
• Big Horn: This is the first trim where the safety story improves, since blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert start here. It’s a sensible value pick if you want a better-equipped truck without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because Uconnect 5 becomes standard here, and four-wheel drive is standard from this grade in Canada. It gives you a stronger mix of tech and everyday usability.
• Rebel: Choose this if you want a more rugged personality and a truck that leans harder into off-road character than the mainstream trims.
• Laramie: This is the step-up choice if you want a more premium-feeling cabin and more comfort-focused equipment.
• Longhorn: Pick this if you want a more upscale, luxury-leaning truck with a stronger emphasis on interior presentation.
• Limited: This is the top luxury-oriented trim, and the test truck showed how far the RAM 1500 can go in comfort, materials, and refinement.
• TRX: This is the high-performance off-road model, aimed at buyers who want the most extreme personality in the lineup.

Higher trims can add the Advanced Safety Group, which bundles additional driver-assistance features and camera-based convenience tech.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 RAM 1500?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,640 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.02% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $40,262 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $40,262 CAD sits slightly below last year's $44,253 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can make it harder for sellers to command top dollar right away. If you’re planning to sell later, the current trend means you may need to price competitively to stand out. On the other hand, strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it’s time to list your truck.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 RAM 1500 safe?

The RAM 1500 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS when equipped with all of its driver aids, and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, though it also received dual four-star frontal-impact ratings for the driver and front passenger. It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Available driver-assist features on the starting from the Ram 1500 Big Horn trims include blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert. Higher trim levels are available with automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. The Advanced Safety Group adds those features, plus a head-up display, surround-view camera, rain-sensing wipers, and a parking-assistance system.

One caveat is that the rear automatic braking system can be overly sensitive in some driveway situations, and lane-keep assist can feel too insistent at times.

Should I buy a 2022 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds Uconnect 5 and improved infotainment responsiveness.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,754 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $40,262 CAD average.
• It adds the TRX performance flagship.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $41,410 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $40,262 CAD average.
• It leans more upscale with a refined cabin and strong comfort focus.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of comfort, tech, and market pricing, the 2022 is the strongest all-round choice. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value path; if you want a newer-feeling upscale truck, the 2023 is worth a look.
