What should I look for when buying a used 2021 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The TRX is the standout trim, with a commanding presence, functional off-road styling, a crew cab-only layout, and a 5-foot, 7-inch box. It also brings a premium-feeling cabin with a standard 12-inch Uconnect display, but some features that buyers may expect can still cost extra.
• Powertrain: The TRX uses a 6.2-litre supercharged Hemi V8 with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It delivers 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, along with serious towing and acceleration capability.
• Safety package: The Advanced Safety Group adds a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, and pedestrian detection with emergency braking. Some safety and security features are standard, but this package adds key driver aids.
• Infotainment: The 12-inch Uconnect 4C system includes navigation, wireless charging, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, HD Radio, and 4G LTE WiFi hotspot capability. It also supports a customizable display layout.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada specs fuel consumption for the TRX at 22.4 L/100 km in the city, 16.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 19.8 L/100 km combined.

Which 2021 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2021 RAM 1500 is offered in 10 trim levels: Tradesman, TRX, and the other trims referenced in the model’s lineup.

Here's the short version:

• TRX: This is the clear choice if you want the most extreme version of the truck, with the supercharged 6.2-litre V8, serious off-road hardware, and a premium cabin. It suits you best if performance matters more than fuel use or price.
• Tradesman: This is the entry point and the most budget-focused path into the lineup. It makes sense if you want the RAM 1500 nameplate and can live without the TRX’s high-performance extras.

The TRX is the trim that brings the most distinctive safety and technology content, while the rest of the lineup is better suited to shoppers who want a more conventional pickup experience.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 RAM 1500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,121 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.35% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,754 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $32,754 CAD sits slightly below last year's $37,802 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price, you may reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. The strongest resale prospects will usually come from well-kept trucks with desirable equipment and broad buyer appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX is built to handle demanding on- and off-road use, and Ram says it will be offered with more than 100 safety and security features, including forward collision warning.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

A rear backup camera with dynamic guidelines is standard. The Advanced Safety Group adds a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, and pedestrian detection with emergency braking. The Technology Group adds a digital rear-view mirror and a brake-activated centre high-mount stop lamp. Other available features include adaptive headlights, hill-start assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, trailer sway control, lane-departure warning, and front and rear park assistance with automatic braking.

Should I buy a 2021 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.35% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds the TRX, giving you a high-performance off-road flagship that no earlier year in this comparison matches.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $31,251 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $32,754 CAD average.
• It brings back the EcoDiesel option across the lineup.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $40,262 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $32,754 CAD average.
• It builds on the RAM 1500’s comfort, utility, and technology strengths.

The bottom line: If you want the most distinctive version of this truck, the 2021 is the one to target. If price matters more than the TRX’s performance focus, the 2020 is the better value play.
