What should I look for when buying a used 2022 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2022 RAM 1500 is available in Quad Cab and Crew Cab body styles, with a standard 6-foot, 4-inch cargo box and an available 5-foot, 7-inch box on Crew Cab models. Lower trims use an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims get a 12-inch display and more upscale equipment, so base versions can feel noticeably less equipped.
• Powertrain: You can find a standard 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 with eTorque, an available 5.7-litre Hemi V8 with or without eTorque, and an EcoDiesel turbocharged 3.0-litre diesel V6. The diesel is the efficiency-focused choice, but it comes at a price premium.
• Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert are available starting from the Big Horn trims. Higher trims can add automatic high beams, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and the Advanced Safety Group.
• Infotainment: Uconnect 5 is optional on lower trims and standard from the Sport grade. It uses an 8.4-inch touchscreen on lower trims and a 12-inch display on higher trims, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, satellite radio, connected services, and available navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The EcoDiesel is rated at 9.7 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test truck averaged 9.5 L/100 km on the road.

Which 2022 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2022 RAM 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Longhorn, Limited, TRX.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the most basic starting point, so it makes sense if you want the RAM 1500’s core capability and plan to add only the equipment you truly need.
• Big Horn: This is the trim where more everyday convenience and safety content starts to show up, including blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it brings standard 4WD in Canada and marks the point where Uconnect 5 becomes standard.
• Rebel: Choose this if you want a more ruggedly styled truck with a stronger personality than the mainstream trims.
• Laramie: This is the first clear step into a more upscale feel, with more comfort and technology content for buyers who want a nicer daily driver.
• Longhorn: This suits you if you want a more premium, Western-themed luxury-truck vibe with richer materials and a more distinctive cabin presentation.
• Limited: This is the luxury pick, with the most upscale interior presentation and the kind of equipment that makes the truck feel closest to a premium SUV.
• TRX: This is the high-performance choice, aimed at buyers who want the most extreme version of the RAM 1500 rather than a conventional pickup.

For safety equipment, the Advanced Safety Group adds the higher-level driver-assistance features and camera systems on top of the available safety content.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 RAM 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,620 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.11% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $40,294 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $40,294 CAD sits slightly below last year's $44,332 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favourable for buyers, which can make resale planning more important if you are purchasing now. If you buy at the right price and keep the truck in strong condition, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later.

The fact that demand remains broad across a large inventory pool also helps support future buyer interest. Trucks with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 RAM 1500 safe?

The Ram 1500 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS when equipped with all of its driver aids, and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, though it also received four-star frontal-impact ratings for the driver and front passenger.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Available driver-assist features starting from the Big Horn trims include blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert. Higher trims can add automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability.

The Advanced Safety Group adds those features, plus a head-up display, surround-view camera, rain-sensing wipers, and a parking-assistance system. One caveat is that the rear automatic braking system can be overly sensitive in some driveway situations, and LaneSense lane-keep assist can feel too insistent at times.

Should I buy a 2022 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.11% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds the next-generation Uconnect 5 infotainment system and new trailer-tow lighting improvements.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,794 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $40,294 CAD average.
• It adds the TRX high-performance off-road trim.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $41,479 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $40,294 CAD average.
• It leans more into comfort and premium interior materials.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around pick if you want a well-rounded full-size truck with strong comfort, good tech, and broad market availability. If price is your top priority, the 2021 is the better value play, while the 2023 makes sense if you want to spend a bit more for a newer-feeling upscale experience.
