What should I look for when buying a used 2022 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2022 Ram 1500 is available in Quad Cab and Crew Cab body styles, with a standard 6-foot, 4-inch cargo box and an available 5-foot, 7-inch box on Crew Cab models. The cabin and equipment vary widely by trim, and the base grades miss some of the richer interior and convenience features that make the higher trims feel more upscale.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a standard 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 with eTorque, a 5.7-litre Hemi V8 with or without eTorque, or the turbocharged 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6. The EcoDiesel brings strong torque and impressive fuel economy, but it is also the priciest engine choice.
• Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert start on Big Horn trims. Higher trims can add automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, rain-sensing wipers, a parking-assistance system, a head-up display, and a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: Uconnect 5 is optional on lower trims and standard from the Sport grade. Lower trims get an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims can have a 12-inch display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with Bluetooth, satellite radio, connected services, and WiFi access.
• Fuel efficiency: The EcoDiesel test truck was rated at 9.7 L/100 km combined, and the test loop returned 9.5 L/100 km.

Which 2022 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2022 RAM 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Longhorn, Limited, TRX.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the entry point if you want the Ram 1500’s core capability at the lowest cost, but it is the trim most likely to feel sparse if you care about comfort and convenience.
• Big Horn: This is the first trim where the truck starts to feel more complete, and it is also where blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert begin. For many buyers, this is the best-value starting point.
• Sport: This trim is a strong step up if you want a more polished feel, and it is the point where 4WD becomes standard in Canada and Uconnect 5 is standard.
• Rebel: Choose this if you want a more rugged personality and a truck that leans toward off-road style and capability.
• Laramie: This is the trim to target if you want a more upscale cabin and a better balance of comfort and equipment without jumping all the way to luxury-truck pricing.
• Longhorn: This trim suits you if you want a more premium, western-themed presentation and richer materials.
• Limited: This is the luxury pick, with the most upscale feel, the richest interior presentation, and the kind of equipment that makes the Ram 1500 feel closest to a premium SUV.
• TRX: This is the high-performance choice, built for buyers who want the most extreme version of the Ram 1500 rather than the best everyday value.

The safety package starts on Big Horn trims, so if you want the most useful driver-assistance features without overspending, that is the trim to watch closely.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 RAM 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully rather than rush.

• Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,583 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.45% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $40,416 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $40,416 CAD sits slightly below last year's $44,634 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the truck easier to buy now but may also limit upside for a future seller in the near term. If you are planning to resell later, the current softness means your best protection is buying well and choosing a desirable trim or powertrain. Strong-condition examples with the right equipment should still attract interest, but you should not expect a rapid rebound in value.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2022 RAM 1500 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, but it also receives four-star frontal-impact ratings for the driver and front passenger.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Available driver-assist features on Big Horn trims include blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage and rear cross-traffic alert. Higher trims can add automatic high-beam headlights, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. The Advanced Safety Group adds those features, plus a head-up display, surround-view camera, rain-sensing wipers, and a parking-assistance system.

The main caveat is that the truck’s NHTSA frontal-impact results leave room for improvement, so if safety is a priority, you should look closely at trims with the fuller driver-assistance package.

Should I buy a 2022 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.45% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds Uconnect 5 and a broader mix of comfort, tech, and capability.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,880 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $40,416 CAD average.
• It adds the TRX, a high-performance off-road flagship.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $41,594 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $40,416 CAD average.
• It leans more upscale, with comfort and premium materials standing out.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and broad appeal, the 2022 is the primary path to consider. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2021 is worth a look for its lower average price, while the 2023 makes sense if you want a slightly newer truck and are willing to pay more.
