CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Mazda MAZDA3
overall

Summary
With 50 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,638 CAD, 34.0% of 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 stands out by delivering intrinsic value in a compact-car package, especially when measured against traditional mainstream alternatives. It also benefits from Mazda’s reputation for making desirable cars, and this year brings a new Platinum Quartz Metallic paint colour. For buyers, the appeal is straightforward: the MAZDA3 combines stylish design, enjoyable driving manners, and strong safety ratings in a way that gives it a more premium feel than many rivals.
That said, the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 is not without compromises. Its fuel economy is poor, the back seat is cramped, and its technology can be unintuitive. Even so, those drawbacks do not erase the car’s core strengths, and the overall impression is of a compact model that prioritises style, driving enjoyment, and value over outright practicality.

This car is beautiful, so far no problems reliability-wise, to be expected from a tried-and-true NA 4 cyl paired to a traditional automatic transmission (no cvt unlike the current corolla and civic autos!). This car drives great for what it is. Speaking for the FWD model, handling is direct and predictable and has good feedback even with stock tires (215/45r18s on my trim). Even though this car isn’t as powerful as the turbo model, it’s fast enough to still be very enjoyable to drive. At 6’0, I surprisingly fit in the backseat of the hatch even with the front seat all the way back (not super comfortably though) and my head doesn’t touch the ceiling. Would recommend anybody interested to test drive this car.

I love this car because of its simple yet luxurious interior and it’s smooth drive. Also love the 6 speed. Perfect daily driver with room for modifications.

By far the best car in its class for performance, luxury, and technology. The turbo engine combined with already excellent handling takes the already popular Mazda 3 to an elevated level.

I love the comfort of the interior, the seats molds around your body. It has a lot of nice features that I was looking for, sunroof, keyless entry,,heater seats and a great Bose stereo that blows your mind. I wish it came with a bigger spoiler of a different color than the car. My biggest change would be to put a black package on them. They look silly with black wheels and chrome trim, I am adding aftermarket black trim everywhere. The only other thing Is, I wish it looked a little more sporty. I bought the turbo and it has plenty of kick but could have used a little bit of a different design than the regular model. For the 32k price range it was a good value in today’s market if it was a little sportier looking.

| Average Price a Year Ago | $24,975 CAD |

Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10. Owners consistently praise its comfortable, luxurious interior, impressive handling, and strong performance, especially with the turbo engine. The car also gets credit for its technology and available Bose audio system. On the trade-off side, the expert review points to poor fuel economy and an unintuitive tech interface. For you, that means this model makes the most sense if you value style, driving enjoyment, and a more premium feel over maximum practicality. Good and great deals account for 30.4% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback points to a comfortable, luxurious cabin and a car that feels dependable enough to earn repeat praise from owners. The expert review also describes the Mazda3 as a car you can trust when driving hard, with smooth, supple ride quality and balanced handling that support confidence over time. Mazda Connected Services includes automatic emergency notification after a collision, which adds a useful ownership perk. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about living with the car’s less friendly technology and higher fuel use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda MAZDA3?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The sedan and hatchback both offer three trim levels, and the base versions are the most stripped-back. You’ll want to compare equipment carefully because many desirable safety and convenience features are not standard.
- Powertrain: You can find a 2.0-litre four-cylinder base engine, a 2.5-litre four-cylinder, and a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder. The turbo adds strong performance, but it also uses more fuel and comes with standard AWD.
- Safety package: Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard, while adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights cost extra. GT grades add adaptive front headlights, Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
- Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses an 8.8-inch static display, Bluetooth, steering wheel controls, and voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can help offset some of the system’s frustrations, and Mazda Connected Services is complimentary for two years.
- Fuel efficiency: The base 2.0-litre engine uses 7.6 L/100 km combined, or 7.7 L/100 km with the manual transmission. The 2.5-litre engine ranges from 7.8 to 8.6 L/100 km combined, while the turbo uses 8.8 L/100 km in the sedan and 8.9 L/100 km in the hatchback.
Which 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?
The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 3 trim levels: GX, GT, and Turbo.
Here's the short version:
- GX: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Mazda3 lineup. It gives you the base 2.0-litre engine and the core Mazda3 experience, but you’ll miss out on much of the richer equipment and advanced safety content found higher up.
- GT: This is the best-value trim if you want a more complete package. It adds the stronger 2.5-litre engine and brings in more of the desirable safety and convenience equipment, making it the most balanced choice for many shoppers.
- Turbo: Choose this if you want the most power and the most upscale feel. It pairs the turbocharged 2.5-litre engine with standard AWD and delivers the most engaging driving experience, but it also comes with the highest running costs.
GT grades get adaptive front headlights that swivel when you turn the steering wheel, plus Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mazda MAZDA3?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 168 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.69% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $22,547 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?
The current average of $22,554 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,975 CAD.
That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also suggests sellers may need to be realistic when they list the car later. If the market continues to favour shoppers, resale values may stay under pressure unless the car’s condition, trim, and equipment stand out. Strong demand for well-kept examples should still support the better-equipped versions, especially those with the features buyers want most.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 safe?
The 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment, including rollover resistance, and the IIHS names it a Top Safety Pick+.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard. You’ll pay extra for adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. GT grades add adaptive front headlights, Traffic Jam Assist, reverse automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system. The expert review also notes that the driver-assist systems behave predictably and inspire trust.
Should I buy a 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.69% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- This year adds a new Platinum Quartz Metallic paint colour.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $21,397 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,554 CAD average.
- It introduced the turbocharged engine and a more performance-focused character.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $25,231 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $22,554 CAD average.
- It leans harder into upscale comfort and hatchback practicality.
The bottom line: The 2022 is the sweet spot if you want the Mazda3’s style, safety, and driving enjoyment at a softer price than the newer model year. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2021 is worth a look; if you want a more polished-feeling hatchback, the 2023 may justify the extra cost.
How does the 2022 Mazda MAZDA3 compare to the 2022 Honda Civic?

The Mazda feels more premium inside and is the more style-forward choice, while the Civic brings stronger fuel economy and more listings to shop from.
