What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX, EX, Sport, and Touring trims differ most in how much equipment you get, with the Touring bringing the most upscale cabin and tech. Base trims are simpler, so you should check carefully for the features you want before assuming they’re included.
• Powertrain: LX, EX, and Sport use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 158 horsepower, while Touring adds a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder with 180 horsepower. Both pair with a CVT, and the turbo engine is the one to seek if you want the stronger performance.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes Traffic Jam Assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, Lane Keeping Assist, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-seat reminder. Touring adds rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: Every Civic gets a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Touring upgrades to a 9-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, HD radio, satellite radio, and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert drive notes a Touring fuel-consumption result of 7.7 L/100 km on a 150-kilometre loop, versus a Natural Resources Canada estimate of 6.9 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2022 Honda Civic is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, Sport, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Civic’s core redesign, standard digital instrumentation, the 7-inch touchscreen, and Honda Sensing. It makes sense if you want the Civic experience at the lowest cost, but you should be comfortable with the simpler equipment list.
• EX: This trim adds more comfort and convenience than LX while staying below the sportier and more expensive versions. It’s a sensible middle ground if you want a better-equipped Civic without jumping to the top trim.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more engaging feel and extra equipment without going all the way to Touring pricing. If you want a nicer balance of features and price, this is the one to focus on.
• Touring: This is the most luxurious and tech-rich version, with the 9-inch screen, wireless smartphone integration, premium audio, and the turbocharged engine. Buy this if you want the most complete Civic and are willing to pay for it.

Honda Sensing is standard across the range, and Touring adds rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 858 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.29% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,670 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $23,670 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,384 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Civic has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stays steady. A model that has softened this much may be easier to position competitively later, especially if it remains well maintained and lightly used. Strong demand for well-equipped trims should also help support values over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Honda Civic safe?

The 2022 Honda Civic earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and includes Traffic Jam Assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, Lane Keeping Assist, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-seat reminder. The system also benefits from a wide-view front camera and ultrasonic sonar sensors, which help improve smoothness and accuracy. Touring adds rear cross-traffic alert.

A key improvement for this generation is the move away from the old LaneWatch setup to a proper blind-spot warning system that works on both sides of the sedan. That said, the most advanced safety content is still concentrated in the higher trims.

Should I buy a 2022 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 28.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.29% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Honda’s redesign, technology, and engineering make this year a standout in the Civic lineup.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,328 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,670 CAD average.
• The outgoing generation is a proven, last-of-its-kind Civic with broad appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the newer design, stronger tech, and better overall polish, the 2022 is the better pick. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable with the older generation, the 2021 remains a smart value alternative.

How does the 2022 Honda Civic compare to the 2022 Toyota Corolla?

The Civic comes across as the more polished and more engaging choice, while the Corolla leans into lower pricing and slightly broader deal availability.
