What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GX, GS, Kuro, and GT focus on value and slightly better fuel economy, while the Sport Design and Signature move you toward quicker acceleration and a more premium feel. The Signature stands out with premium Nappa leather upholstery, real wood trim, and polished metallic accents, while the top trim also adds body-colour lower exterior trim.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder makes 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, and all CX-5s have standard all-wheel drive. If you want more punch, the turbo engine is the one to seek out, especially if you drive at higher altitude or want stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. GT adds adaptive headlights, while Signature adds a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.25-inch Mazda Connect display with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, text-messaging support, and Mazda Connected Services. The screen is not touch-sensing, and there is no natural voice recognition, so you should make sure you are comfortable using the centre-console controller.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard powertrain is rated at 9.3 L/100 km in combined driving, or 9.0 L/100 km when cylinder deactivation is equipped. The turbo engine is rated at 9.8 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 6 trim levels: GX, GS, Kuro, GT, Sport Design, Signature.

Here's the short version:

• GX: This is the entry point if you want the CX-5’s core strengths at the lowest price, including standard all-wheel drive and the full i-Activsense safety suite. It makes the most sense if you care more about value and safety than luxury touches.
• GS: This is the trim to focus on if you want a better balance of equipment and price. It keeps the CX-5’s strong fundamentals while staying on the value side of the lineup.
• Kuro: This is the best fit if you want a more distinctive look and the added drive-mode flexibility that comes with Mazda Intelligent Drive Select. It also marks the point where the turbocharged engine becomes available.
• GT: This is the trim to consider if you want a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the top. It adds adaptive headlights and can be paired with the Bose premium sound system.
• Sport Design: This is the best-value choice if you want the turbocharged engine and a more premium, performance-oriented feel without going straight to Signature. It is the right pick for buyers who want stronger acceleration and are willing to trade some fuel efficiency for it.
• Signature: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with the most premium cabin materials and the fullest safety and convenience package. Buy this if you want the most upscale CX-5 experience.

The Signature trim gets the most complete safety package, including the surround-view camera system, parking sensors, automatic rear braking, driver monitoring, and Traffic Jam Assist.

The current year-round range suggests there is still a meaningful ceiling for well-kept examples, especially if they are equipped and presented well.
