What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GX, GS, Kuro, and GT are the value-focused trims if you want to save money and accept more leisurely acceleration. The Sport Design and Signature sit higher up the range for buyers who want quicker performance and more premium equipment, with the Signature adding the most luxurious cabin materials.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder makes 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, while the turbocharged version delivers much stronger output on premium fuel or regular gas. All CX-5s have standard all-wheel drive, and the revised six-speed automatic is part of the package.
• Safety package: The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. GT adds adaptive headlights, while Signature adds a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.25-inch Mazda Connect display with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, text-messaging support, and Mazda Connected Services. The screen is not touch-sensitive, and there is no natural voice recognition, so you’ll rely on the centre-console and steering-wheel controls.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard powertrain is rated at 9.3 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving, or 9.0 L/100 km when cylinder deactivation is equipped. The turbocharged engine is rated at 9.8 L/100 km combined.

The current average of $27,704 CAD sits slightly below last year's $30,367 CAD.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mazda’s updates make the CX-5 feel more premium, quieter, and more refined.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,240 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,704 CAD average.
• It remains a competitive family SUV with a luxurious feel and sporty performance.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $29,803 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,704 CAD average.
• It stays stylish and engaging, but adds little beyond a carryover update.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the sweet spot if you want the most polished version of this generation without paying the newer-year premium. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want a newer model and can spend more, the 2023 remains a sensible alternative.
