What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Laredo is the most affordable and simplest version, while the Trailhawk adds serious off-road equipment and the Summit Reserve focuses on luxury. Lower trims use a more functional matte-black finish, while higher trims can have glossy controls that are harder to use because of reflections.
• Powertrain: You can choose a V6 or a V8, both paired with 4WD and an 8-speed automatic. The V6 is the more efficient choice and is described as the expert pick, while the V8 brings stronger towing and a more muscular character.
• Safety package: Active Driving Assist is the key suite, combining adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and lane-centring assistance. Standard equipment also includes blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, full-speed forward collision warning, and Intersection Collision Assist. Some advanced features are not universal across the range.
• Infotainment: Uconnect 5 is standard, with an 8.4-inch touchscreen in most trims and a 10.1-inch screen standard on Summit and Summit Reserve. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and over-the-air updates are included.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates range from 11.3 L/100 km with the V6 to 14.1 L/100 km with the V8 in combined driving. The expert test also recorded 11.0 L/100 km with the V6 and 13.8 L/100 km with the V8.

Which 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 7 trim levels: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the value-focused starting point, and it makes sense if you want the Grand Cherokee’s core style and capability without paying for luxury extras.
• Altitude: Choose this if you want a more distinctive look while staying close to the lower end of the range.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and technology without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Trailhawk: Pick this if off-road ability is your priority; it gets the most serious trail hardware and is the clear choice for rough terrain.
• Overland: This trim suits you if you want a more upscale feel and the added capability of the more advanced 4WD system.
• Summit: This is the luxury-leaning choice for buyers who want a richer cabin and more premium equipment.
• Summit Reserve: This is the top-end pick if you want the most plush version, with premium leather, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, a McIntosh audio system, and a panoramic sunroof.

The Trailhawk is the trim with the most explicit safety-and-capability emphasis, while the Summit Reserve is the most luxurious.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 594 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.85% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $33,540 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $33,540 CAD sits slightly below last year's $38,485 CAD.

That softer pricing can be good news if you buy now, but it also means a future seller may face a more competitive resale environment if prices stay under pressure. The current market suggests buyers have become more selective, so condition, trim, and equipment will matter more when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Jeep equips it with an impressive collection of advanced driver assistance systems, including standard blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, full-speed forward collision warning, Intersection Collision Assist, and Active Driving Assist with adaptive cruise control and lane-centring assistance. The structure also uses extensive aluminium and high-strength steel.

A key caveat is that Active Driving Assist can disconnect if curves are too tight, so you still need to stay alert and ready to take over. Jeep also notes that a hands-free version is coming later in the model year.

Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.85% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 brings a redesigned cabin, stronger technology, and a more sophisticated feel.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $29,067 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $33,540 CAD average.
• It is the final version of the older two-row Grand Cherokee formula.

The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the redesigned Grand Cherokee’s better technology, more premium feel, and broader appeal. If your priority is saving money and you are comfortable with the older generation, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path.
