What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Laredo is the simplest and most affordable version, while Summit Reserve is the most luxurious. Lower trims use a more functional matte-black finish, while higher trims add more premium materials and features.
• Powertrain: You can choose a V6 or a V8, both paired with 4WD. The V6 is the more efficient choice, while the V8 adds stronger towing and more power.
• Safety package: Active Driving Assist brings adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and lane-centring assistance. Standard equipment also includes blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, full-speed forward collision warning, and Intersection Collision Assist. Some features are not universal across the range.
• Infotainment: Uconnect 5 is standard, with an 8.4-inch touchscreen in most trims and a 10.1-inch screen standard on Summit and Summit Reserve. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and over-the-air updates are included.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates range from 11.3 L/100 km with the V6 to 14.1 L/100 km with the V8 in combined driving.

Which 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 7 trim levels: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the value-focused starting point if you want the Grand Cherokee’s core design, comfort, and capability without paying for extra luxury features.
• Altitude: Choose this if you want a more stylish step up while staying close to the lower end of the range.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and tech while staying below the premium models.
• Trailhawk: Pick this if off-road capability matters most; it adds serious hardware and is the most specialised choice in the lineup.
• Overland: This is the right middle ground if you want more upscale equipment and the available two-speed transfer case.
• Summit: Choose this if you want a more luxury-leaning Grand Cherokee with stronger available hardware.
• Summit Reserve: This is the top luxury choice, with the plushest cabin and the most premium feel.

Active Driving Assist is part of the safety story here, and Jeep also notes that a hands-free version is coming later in the model year.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 589 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.78% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $34,802 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $34,830 CAD sits slightly below last year's $39,481 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can be good news if you are buying now but less ideal if you plan to sell soon. A softer market usually means future sellers may need to price more competitively to attract attention.

Even so, the Grand Cherokee’s broad appeal helps support demand. Buyers still respond to its mix of comfort, capability, and premium feel, which can help resale hold up better than a more ordinary SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Jeep equips it with a strong suite of driver-assistance features, including standard blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, full-speed forward collision warning, and Intersection Collision Assist. Active Driving Assist adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and lane-centring assistance, giving you a more advanced hands-on driving aid system.

Jeep also says the structure uses extensive aluminium and high-strength steel, which supports the safety story. A caveat is that the system can disconnect if curves are too tight, so you still need to stay engaged.

Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.78% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesigned model brings a major technology and sophistication upgrade while keeping the Grand Cherokee’s core capability.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $29,691 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $34,830 CAD average.
• It is the final version of the previous generation, so you get the familiar two-row Grand Cherokee formula in its older, established form.

The bottom line: If you want the newer design, stronger tech, and a more premium-feeling used SUV, the 2022 is the better all-round choice. If your priority is saving money and you are comfortable with the older generation, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path.
