Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Tucson earns a 4.82/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, excellent safety features, stylish design, comfort, and spacious interior. That lines up well with the Tucson’s practical family-vehicle mission, especially if you want a compact SUV with more room than before and a cabin that feels well equipped for everyday use.

The expert assessment also supports that impression by describing the SUV as competent and well-rounded, with a ride and feature set that make it easy to live with over the long term.

Hyundai’s 5-year/100,000-kilometre limited warranty adds some reassurance for used buyers, but you should still check service history carefully because long-term ownership risk always depends on how the vehicle was maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Tucson?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Essential trim is the most stripped-down version, while Preferred adds useful everyday upgrades such as heated outside mirrors, blind-spot monitoring indicators, rear cross-traffic avoidance assist indicators and turn signals, front aero wipers, and keyless entry. The Trend Package on Preferred adds a sunroof, and higher grades bring premium fascias, front and rear skid plates, gloss black pillars, and a panoramic sunroof.
• Powertrain: You can shop the 2.5-litre direct-injected four-cylinder or the hybrid powertrain with a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. The gas engine is described as capable but uninspiring, while the hybrid is the more powerful and more engaging option.
• Safety package: Hyundai SmartSense includes standard forward collision-avoidance assist, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, a driver attention monitor, and rear occupant alert. Cyclist and pedestrian detection is added at the Preferred grade, and you can also add blind-spot warning with collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance assist, safe exit warning, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, a surround-view camera system, forward and reverse park distance warning, parking collision avoidance assist, ultrasonic rear occupant alert, and remote parking assist.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, Bluetooth, and two USB ports. Preferred adds satellite radio, Blue Link mobile app compatibility, two additional rear USB outlets, rear air conditioning vents, and dual-zone automatic climate control, while higher trims can get a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation and a fully digital instrument cluster.
• Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive gas model is targeted at 8.2 L/100 km combined, while the all-wheel-drive gas model is targeted at 9.0 L/100 km combined. The hybrid is rated at 6.4 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Hyundai Tucson trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson is offered in 5 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, N Line, Luxury, Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point, but it is the most basic version of the Tucson. If you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned model, it gets the job done, though the feature set is clearly lighter than the higher trims.
• Preferred: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds meaningful everyday upgrades such as blind-spot monitoring indicators, rear cross-traffic avoidance assist indicators and turn signals, heated outside mirrors, keyless entry, and the option to add the Trend Package.
• N Line: Choose this if you want the sportier-looking gas model with 19-inch alloy wheels, sport combination seats, and the more distinctive design treatment.
• Luxury: This trim moves you into the hybrid lineup and adds a more upscale equipment mix, making it a strong pick if you want better efficiency and a richer feature set.
• Ultimate: This is the top hybrid trim and suits you if you want the most complete Tucson package, including the highest level of equipment in the lineup.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but cyclist and pedestrian detection is added at the Preferred grade, so that trim is the key step up for safety-minded shoppers.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?

The current average of $22,768 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,905 CAD.

That drop suggests the Tucson has become more affordable for used buyers, which can make it easier to move if you price yours competitively later. For a future seller, the current trend means you may need to be realistic on asking price if you want to stand out in a market with decent inventory. The upside is that the Tucson’s broad appeal, strong equipment list, and family-friendly packaging should help support demand.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.38% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.82/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesigned 2022 Tucson brings a longer, wider body, more cargo and passenger space, and a high-tech cabin that helped define the new generation.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Tucson and value a roomier cabin, strong safety equipment, and a well-rounded feature set, the 2022 is the right year to target. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, you may want to compare nearby model years and focus on the listings that sit closest to the low end of the range.
