CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Hyundai Tucson

Summary
With 44 currently listed for sale and an average price of $21,940 CAD, 25.0% of 2021 Hyundai Tucson listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Hyundai Tucson 4.83 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Hyundai Tucson stands out as a compact SUV that leans heavily into value, comfort, and everyday usability. It comes from a generation that was praised for offering a lot of features for the money, and that reputation is reinforced by its standard equipment and available safety technology. For buyers who want a practical small SUV without feeling stripped down, the Tucson’s appeal is easy to understand.
For 2021, the Tucson carried over without any notable changes as Hyundai prepared to roll out a new model. That means it kept the familiar third-generation formula: a comfortable ride, decent handling, and a cabin that had already benefited from earlier updates such as standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a stronger emphasis on safety equipment. It also remained a sensible choice on the used market because the generation was known for holding its value reasonably well and for being plentiful in Canada.
There are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The base engine was described as noticeably slower to get up to highway speeds, and the dual-clutch transmission used with the turbocharged engine could stutter or hesitate at low speeds. Even so, the 2021 Hyundai Tucson remains appealing for shoppers who prioritise comfort, features, and a well-rounded ownership experience over outright performance.

CPO so 10/10,000 warranty still valid. Reliable car, nice features, good gas mileage, good value. Pickup lacking but that’s because I was driving a v8 prior.

I was looking for a car that my family could comfortably ride in, and the Tucson was the perfect car for that. Its easy to drive and the ride quality is pretty good. Above all, the long warranty allows you to drive with confidence. However, drivers who seek the fun of driving may not be interested. I think I purchased it for my own purposes.

I really like the blind spot warning signal and the back up camera as well. I thought this car was a great price for only 1 owner, no accidents & low mileage. This car was missing the cargo pkg that should have came with the car as promised. I didn’t shop around for any other models, since this was the only one I wanted. My 2014 Hyundai Tucson Limited, I bought brand new and would have kept it for the rest of my life, but on March 20, 2023 it was totaled in an accident.

How much does the 2021 Hyundai Tucson cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,361 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $20,361 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $23,337 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,337 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.75% |
Prices have softened 12.75% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 470 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of choice.
Is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Hyundai Tucson earns a 4.83/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its comfort, great handling, and impressive features for the price. It also fits well if you want a practical compact SUV with everyday usability and a value-focused ownership experience. With 31.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson reliable?
Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with comfort and features that keep owners happy over time. That kind of satisfaction usually matters most when you want a used SUV you can count on for regular commuting and family duties. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is choosing a poorly maintained example rather than the model itself.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Tucson?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.
- Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 470 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.75% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $20,361 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?
The current average of $20,361 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,337 CAD.
That price movement suggests the Tucson has become more accessible for buyers, which can make it a tougher vehicle for sellers to command top dollar right now. If you plan to resell later, the current softer market means your purchase price matters more than usual. Buying well today gives you a better chance of protecting your value when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.75% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $22,768 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $20,361 CAD average.
- It brings a redesigned body with more space.
The bottom line:
Choose the 2021 if you want the better value and are focused on comfort, features, and everyday usability. Consider the 2022 if you are willing to pay more for the redesign and extra space, but price-sensitive buyers will likely find the 2021 the smarter buy.
