Why it stands out
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson stands out for its redesign, which made it longer and wider than before and gave it more cargo and passenger space. That extra room is a major part of its appeal in the compact SUV class, especially for buyers who want a practical family vehicle without moving up to a larger SUV.
Hyundai also gave the 2022 Tucson a high-tech cabin, a comfortable ride, a competent engine lineup, and a spacious cargo area. Those strengths make it feel well rounded and competitive, with enough everyday usability and comfort to attract shoppers looking for a modern compact SUV that can handle commuting, errands, and family duties. Some owners do note a lack of engine power and a desire for more cargo space or larger cupholders, but the overall impression is of a stylish, comfortable SUV that leaves many buyers very satisfied.

It was a great deal with decent low mileage, limited AWD, I got more for my money. Fully covered with great warrantys

I LOVE this car! I researched and waited for the right one for months! I am so pleased with how smooth it drives and the fancy features! My know knock would be the lack of power. It doesn’t accelerate very quickly but I didn’t really expect it to. Overall I’m obsessed and can’t wait to drive it for many years to come

Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Tucson earns a 4.82/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, excellent safety features, stylish design, comfort, and spacious interior. That lines up well with the Tucson’s role as a practical compact SUV for commuting, errands, and family duties, especially if you want a modern cabin and everyday usability without moving up to a larger SUV.
There are 31.1% of listings priced as good or great deals, which gives you a decent chance of finding a strong-value example.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson reliable?
Owners rate it 4.82/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers saying they are extremely satisfied with their decision to buy a Tucson. The expert assessment also describes the Tucson as a competent, well-rounded SUV with a comfortable ride and a strong overall package, which supports confidence in day-to-day use.
Hyundai’s 5-year/100,000-kilometre limited warranty also helps reduce early ownership risk for used buyers, though you should still check service history and condition carefully before you buy.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Tucson?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Tucson’s cabin and exterior equipment vary meaningfully by grade. The base trim gets standard LED daytime running lights, Bi-LED headlights, LED front turn signals, 17-inch alloy wheels, stain- and odour-resistant cloth seats, and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen. Higher grades add roof rails, heated outside mirrors, blind-spot monitoring indicators, keyless entry, a sunroof with the Trend Package, leather-trimmed seats, 19-inch alloy wheels, premium fascias, skid plates, and a panoramic sunroof.
- Powertrain: You can choose between a 2.5-litre direct-injected four-cylinder with an eight-speed automatic and a hybrid powertrain built around a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder and electric motor with a six-speed transmission. The gas engine is described as capable but uninspiring, while the hybrid is the more powerful and more engaging option.
- Safety package: Hyundai SmartSense includes standard forward collision-avoidance assist, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, a driver attention monitor, and rear occupant alert. Cyclist and pedestrian detection is added at the Preferred grade. Available features include blind-spot warning with collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance assist, safe exit warning, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, a surround-view camera system, parking collision avoidance assist, and remote parking assist.
- Infotainment: Standard equipment includes an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, HD Radio, a six-speaker audio system, and two USB ports. Moving up to Preferred adds satellite radio and Blue Link mobile app compatibility, while higher trims can get a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation and a fully digital instrument cluster.
- Fuel efficiency: The gas model is targeted at 8.2 L/100 km combined with front-wheel drive and 9.0 L/100 km combined with all-wheel drive. The hybrid is rated at 6.4 L/100 km combined.
Which 2022 Hyundai Tucson trim should I buy?
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson is offered in 5 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, N Line, Luxury, and Ultimate.
Here's the short version:
- Essential: This is the entry point, but it still brings a strong equipment list, including LED lighting, heated front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen, and a broad safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned Tucson.
- Preferred: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful everyday upgrades such as blind-spot monitoring indicators, keyless entry, heated mirrors, rear air vents, satellite radio, Blue Link, and more USB ports. If you want the sweet spot between price and features, this is the one to focus on.
- N Line: This trim adds a more distinctive look, 19-inch wheels, and sport combination seats. It suits you if style matters and you want a more upscale appearance without moving to the top of the range.
- Luxury: This trim is part of the hybrid lineup and brings a more premium equipment set, including 19-inch wheels and higher-end comfort and convenience features. It is the right fit if you want the hybrid powertrain and a more upscale feel.
- Ultimate: This is the top hybrid trim and is the most feature-rich version mentioned here. Choose it if you want the fullest equipment list and are willing to pay for it.
The safety package is especially comprehensive, and the Preferred grade is the key trim where cyclist and pedestrian detection is added.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Tucson?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should have some room to shop around without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.
- Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 486 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.93% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $23,026 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?
The current average of $23,228 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,305 CAD.
That drop suggests the Tucson has moved into a more buyer-friendly pricing zone, which can make it easier for future sellers to attract interest if they price competitively. The current trend also implies that the market has already absorbed some of the model’s depreciation, which may help stabilise resale expectations compared with a year ago.
Because the Tucson continues to score well with owners, demand should remain healthy for clean, well-kept examples. That matters if you plan to sell later, since strong satisfaction often supports stronger resale interest.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.82/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson safe?
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson has not been tested and rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) nor the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA).
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The Hyundai SmartSense Safety Feature suite includes standard forward collision-avoidance assist, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, a driver attention monitor, and rear occupant alert. Cyclist and pedestrian detection is added at the Preferred grade. Available safety equipment also includes blind-spot warning with collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance assist, safe exit warning, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, a surround-view camera system, blind-spot monitoring, forward and reverse park distance warning, parking collision avoidance assist, ultrasonic rear occupant alert, and remote parking assist.
That is a very comprehensive safety roster for a compact SUV, and it is one of the Tucson’s strongest selling points. The main caveat is that the most advanced features are not all standard on the base trim, so you should confirm the exact equipment on any used example you are considering.
Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.93% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.82/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesigned 2022 Tucson brings a longer, wider body, more cargo and passenger space, and a high-tech cabin that helped it stand out in the compact SUV class.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Tucson with more space, strong owner satisfaction, and a well-rounded feature set, the 2022 is the year to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare it with nearby model years to see whether a similar Tucson can save you money, but the 2022 remains a compelling choice for shoppers who value modern design and everyday practicality.
