Is the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer a good car?

Generally — 4.33/5 from owners and 6.67/10 from our experts point to a small SUV that lands in the solidly likeable range. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable and functional interior, stylish design, and smooth ride. The Trailblazer also comes across as practical and good value for the features it offers, especially in the LT package.

That fits the Trailblazer’s use case well: you’re looking at a personality-rich, affordable, everyday small crossover with broad appeal rather than a performance-focused SUV. Only 25.3% of listings are marked as good or great deals, so the market is selective rather than flooded with bargains.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the comfortable cabin, functional layout, and overall value. The review summary also highlights that many owners find it a great value for the features it offers, which usually matters when you’re trying to count on a vehicle day to day.

From the expert side, the Trailblazer is described as useful and safe, with technology that works well and a package that feels well sorted for everyday driving. Chevrolet also includes a useful maintenance perk in the form of a first scheduled maintenance visit that is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some drivers have noted ride-quality concerns and a lack of horsepower, so you’ll want to make sure the specific vehicle still suits your expectations.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LS, LT, Activ, and RS each bring a different mix of equipment and character. The LT stands out as the best-value choice in the expert review, while the RS is the priciest and was judged too expensive once options were added. The cabin is stylish, but hard plastics are a noticeable part of the interior, especially if you’re comparing higher-priced examples.
• Powertrain: You’re looking at a turbocharged three-cylinder setup, with the 1.3-litre engine as the Canadian default. Front-wheel drive uses a CVT, while all-wheel drive adds a nine-speed automatic and a more sophisticated rear suspension. The AWD version is described as the best one to drive.
• Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot warning with lane-change assistance, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control are available, so check whether a used example has those extras.
• Infotainment: You get a 7-inch or 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, Bluetooth, and Chevrolet Connected Services readiness. Teen Driver technology is standard, and the system is described as simple and intuitive to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The AWD version is rated at 8.4 L/100 km combined, while the FWD version is rated at 7.6 L/100 km combined. In testing, the AWD Trailblazer averaged 9.0 L/100 km in combined driving.

Which 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer trim should I buy?

The 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer is offered in 4 trim levels: LS, LT, Activ, and RS.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Trailblazer’s style and core safety and tech without stretching your budget. It gives you the basic formula, but you’ll want to compare it carefully against the LT because the expert review points to the LT as the better value.
• LT: This is the best-value trim. It’s the one the expert review recommends upgrading to, and it also unlocks remote engine start. If you want the smartest balance of price and equipment, this is the trim to focus on first.
• Activ: Choose this if you want the more rugged-looking version with off-road suspension tuning, sport-terrain tires, and a front skid plate. It adds a bit of dirt-road flavour, but the review still cautions you to take care on rough terrain.
• RS: This is the style-forward trim with 18-inch wheels and a sportier feel, but the expert review says it becomes too expensive once options are added. It suits you best only if appearance matters more than value.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard across the lineup, while blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 25.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 225 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.42% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,847 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer's resale value?

The current average of $21,847 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,664 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Trailblazer is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly. If you own one and plan to sell later, the present market gives you a useful benchmark for setting expectations.

The good news is that the Trailblazer still has broad appeal thanks to its style, practicality, and everyday usability. That should help support demand, even if the current price trend means sellers may need to be realistic.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer safe?

The Trailblazer earns top crash-test ratings from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Every Trailblazer also gets 10 airbags, a rear-seat reminder system, and Teen Driver technology.

Blind-spot warning with lane-change assistance, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control are available, so you may want to look for a used example that includes those options if you want a fuller safety suite.

Should I buy a 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 25.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.42% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds a heated steering wheel, new paint colours, and an available dealer-installed trailering package.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,311 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $21,847 CAD average.
• It launched the Trailblazer nameplate with style, value, and everyday practicality.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $24,243 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $21,847 CAD average.
• It keeps the same appealing formula while adding new paint choices and a roof colour option.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and current market softness, the 2022 is the sensible pick. If you’re focused on saving money, the 2021 is the cheaper route; if you want a newer example and don’t mind paying more, the 2023 is the alternative to compare.
