What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Chevrolet Equinox?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LS is the most basic version, while higher trims add more equipment and a more upscale feel. The RS brings black exterior trim, darkened 19-inch wheels, a black interior with red stitching, and a model-specific shift knob, but its styling changes are mostly cosmetic.
• Powertrain: You get a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian braking, forward collision warning, following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and Chevy’s Teen Driver system. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, a surround-view camera system, front and rear park assist, and automatic parking assist.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes a 7-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a built-in 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. Higher trims get an 8-inch touchscreen and a 4.2-inch instrument-cluster screen.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the Equinox at 8.4 L/100 km combined with front-wheel drive and 8.8 L/100 km combined with all-wheel drive.

Which 2022 Chevrolet Equinox trim should I buy?

The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is offered in 4 trim levels: LS, LT, RS, Premier.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Equinox lineup and are comfortable with the most basic equipment.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday convenience without pushing you into the pricier upper end of the range.
• RS: Choose this if you want the sportier appearance package, blacked-out exterior details, and a more distinctive cabin look.
• Premier: This is the trim to target if you want the most upscale version of the Equinox and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, but some advanced driver-assistance features remain optional rather than standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Chevrolet Equinox?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 384 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.72% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,498 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox's resale value?

The current average of $22,498 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,075 CAD.

That softer pricing means future sellers may face a more competitive resale environment than they would have a year ago. If you buy now, the lower entry price can help offset some of that depreciation pressure. The Equinox’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction should still support steady demand from used shoppers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox safe?

The 2022 Equinox received top “Good” scores in most Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests, but received a “Marginal” rating in the updated side crash test. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave it a five-star overall safety rating, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests, and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian braking, forward collision warning, following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and Chevy’s Teen Driver system. Optional features include a Safety Alert Seat, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, a surround-view camera system, front and rear park assist, and automatic parking assist.

The main caveat is the Marginal IIHS side-crash result, which is worth keeping in mind if safety is a top priority for you.

Should I buy a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds revised styling, wireless smartphone integration, and available parking-assist tech.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $24,994 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $22,498 CAD average.
• It adds a bit more power and a more sophisticated braking system.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2022 is the smarter buy because it combines lower pricing with strong owner satisfaction and useful updates. If you are willing to spend more for a slightly fresher feel and a few mechanical improvements, the 2023 is the better alternative.
