CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Toyota Tundra
overall

Summary
With 93 currently listed for sale and an average price of $46,496 CAD, 33.3% of 2021 Toyota Tundra listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Toyota Tundra 4.55 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Toyota Tundra stands out because it is an older full-size pickup that still manages to feel relevant. Its design and underpinnings date back to the mid-2000s, yet Toyota has kept it competitive with key updates and special editions. That gives it a different appeal from newer trucks that lean heavily on the latest in-car technology and oversized screens. For buyers who care more about a truck’s core job than about chasing every new gadget, that straightforward approach can be a strength.
That age also shapes the Tundra’s appeal and its limitations. The truck’s long-running formula can be attractive to shoppers who value simplicity, quality construction, spaciousness, powerful performance, reliability, and a smooth ride. At the same time, the lack of modern tech features and poor fuel economy may be drawbacks for some buyers. Overall, the 2021 Toyota Tundra is distinctive because it combines an established, proven design with enough updates to remain a practical choice in a rapidly changing segment.

Smooth ride, very quite, and comfortable. We love it and won’t be buying but a Toyota Tundra from now on; I just wish that I checked into them sooner, my wife had been wanting one for years. Yes, it is a good value. Only thing missing on mine is a hard cover camper for the bed. But I plan on getting that taken care of. Compared to my last truck, 1500 Ram has nothing on this truck. This truck has more in its extras, smoother and quiter ride, and it looks better.

Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Toyota Tundra earns a 4.55/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, powerful performance, reliability, smooth ride, and quality construction. For you, that means this is a strong fit if you want a full-size pickup that focuses on core truck duties rather than chasing the latest cabin gimmicks. The straightforward layout and practical approach also make it appealing if you value ease of use and a familiar feel.
The market shows 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which points to decent value opportunities.
Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.55/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback repeatedly highlights reliability, and the truck is also described as dependable and trouble-free over the long term. The expert assessment reinforces that impression by describing the Tundra as a truck that should prove bulletproof in terms of reliability and long-term dependability. Toyota’s standard maintenance coverage also helps ownership feel more predictable.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that age-related wear may matter more than the powertrain itself, so condition and maintenance history are especially important.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Tundra?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Double Cab includes standard 18-inch alloy wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, power-adjustable heated side mirrors, and heated front seats. Higher trims and packages add features such as leather seating, navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, and premium audio, so you should compare equipment carefully if you want more comfort or convenience.
- Powertrain: You get a standard 5.7-litre V8 with a six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive with low range. It delivers strong acceleration and confident towing, but it is also less efficient than newer rivals.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, with forward-collision warning and avoidance, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors are optional, so check whether the truck you are considering has them.
- Infotainment: The standard setup uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and multiple USB ports. Navigation is available, and the system includes redundant hard buttons for easier operation.
- Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates it at 18.0 L/100 km in the city, 14.2 L/100 km on the highway, and 16.3 L/100 km combined. In mixed driving, the test vehicle returned 17.0 L/100 km.
Which 2021 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?
The 2021 Toyota Tundra is offered in 6 trim levels: Double Cab, CrewMax SR5, CrewMax Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, and Trail Special Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Double Cab: This is the entry point and makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Tundra’s standard V8, four-wheel drive, and core safety and infotainment equipment. It is the best-value choice if you care more about capability than luxury.
- CrewMax SR5: This is the most affordable CrewMax and is the better pick if you want the roomier cab layout without jumping all the way to the premium trims. It is a sensible middle ground for many shoppers.
- Trail Special Edition: This trim adds black badging, dark grey wheels, a unique grille, and Predator side steps, so it suits you if you want a more distinctive look without moving into the top-end luxury grades.
- TRD Pro: This is the most off-road-focused choice, with a lift, Fox off-road shock absorbers, all-terrain tires, skid plates, and a TRD exhaust. Choose it if you want the most rugged hardware in the lineup.
- CrewMax Platinum: This is the luxury-oriented pick, with heated and ventilated front seats, memory functions, chrome power-folding mirrors, and upgraded interior materials. It is the right choice if comfort matters most.
- 1794 Edition: This is closely related to the Platinum but adds unique visual and interior touches, including a leather and woodgrain-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Pick it if you want a more distinctive upscale cabin.
Toyota Safety Sense P is standard across the range, while blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert remain optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Tundra?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

- Inventory: There are 96 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.98% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $46,437 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Toyota Tundra's resale value?
The current average of $46,470 CAD sits slightly below last year's $51,624 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it can also mean future sellers may need to be more competitive when listing a used Tundra. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who purchased when prices were higher. The truck’s established reputation and loyal following should still help support demand over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.55/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra safe?
The 2021 Toyota Tundra earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning and avoidance, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Every Tundra also comes with eight airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a tow package with a heavy-duty hitch receiver and transmission cooler. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors are optional.
Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.98% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.55/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It keeps the old-school truck formula while adding modern infotainment and standard safety tech.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $44,060 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $46,470 CAD average.
- It is valued for reliability and long-term dependability.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $47,126 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $46,470 CAD average.
- It brings a full redesign with updates in almost every area.
The bottom line: If you want the proven second-generation Tundra with modernised tech and strong owner satisfaction, the 2021 is the balanced choice. If price is your top priority, the 2020 can save you money; if you want a full redesign, the 2022 is the better path.
