Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Toyota Tundra earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, powerful performance, and reliability, while also highlighting the smooth ride and quality construction. For you, that means this truck makes the most sense if you want a straightforward full-size pickup that focuses on core capability rather than the latest cabin gimmicks. Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback repeatedly points to reliability, and it also describes the truck as dependable and a good fit for buyers who want something they can count on. The expert assessment reinforces that theme by describing the Tundra as a rugged pickup that can take some abuse and by noting its long-running, proven design. Toyota’s standard safety and infotainment updates also help it feel more current than its age might suggest.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that age-related compromises can still show up in fuel use and overall refinement.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Tundra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Double Cab includes standard 18-inch alloy wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, power-adjustable heated side mirrors, and heated front seats. Higher trims and packages add features such as leather seats, navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, memory functions, and premium audio, so you should check carefully for the equipment gap between the entry model and the better-equipped versions.
• Powertrain: You get Toyota’s 5.7-litre V8 with 391 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel drive with low range in Canada. It is described as strong at both low and high speeds, but the trade-off is fuel efficiency.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward-collision warning and avoidance, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors are optional, so check whether the truck you’re considering has them.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, multiple USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, and available navigation. The layout is straightforward and includes redundant hard buttons, which makes it easy to use.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates all Tundra grades at 18.0 L/100 km in the city, 14.2 L/100 km on the highway, and 16.3 L/100 km combined. In expert testing, it averaged 17.0 L/100 km.

Which 2021 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Tundra is offered in 6 trim levels: Double Cab, CrewMax SR5, CrewMax Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Offroad, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• Double Cab: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Tundra experience with standard heated front seats, heated mirrors, an 8-inch touchscreen, and the basic equipment you need. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and do not need the extra comfort or off-road content found higher up.
• CrewMax SR5: This is the best-value choice if you want the most affordable CrewMax configuration. It is the trim used for the Trail Special Edition package in the expert review, which adds black badging, dark grey wheels, a unique grille, and Predator side steps.
• CrewMax Platinum: This trim adds a blacked-out grille, unique badging, chrome heated power-folding memory mirrors, heated and ventilated front seats, embroidered leather seatback upholstery, and a 10-way power driver’s seat with memory. It suits you if comfort and upscale features matter more than price.
• 1794 Edition: This version largely mirrors the Platinum but adds unique visual and interior touches, including a leather and woodgrain wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. It is the pick if you want the same upscale content with a more distinctive look.
• TRD Offroad: This package adds Bilstein shocks, 18-inch off-road alloys with all-terrain tires, a power moonroof, and LED headlamps and fog lamps. It is the right fit if you want a more rugged setup without going all the way to the top performance-oriented package.
• TRD Pro: This is the most aggressive version, with a 5 cm lift, Fox off-road shock absorbers, all-terrain tires, beefed-up skid plates, a TRD exhaust, a power-adjustable passenger seat, and a 12-speaker JBL audio system. It is the one to choose if you want the most capability-focused and feature-rich Tundra.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Tundra?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop with a clear target and be ready to move on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 96 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.72% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $45,930 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Tundra's resale value?

The current average of $46,864 CAD sits slightly below last year's $50,241 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favourable for buyers, which can make future resale more sensitive to condition, mileage, and equipment. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of protecting value later, especially if you choose a well-equipped trim with broad appeal. The Tundra’s proven reputation and loyal following should help support demand, even if its age limits how quickly prices can climb.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra safe?

The 2021 Toyota Tundra earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning and avoidance, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Every Tundra also comes with eight airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a tow package with a heavy-duty hitch receiver and transmission cooler. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors are optional, so you should confirm whether a used example has those extras.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the proven old-school truck formula while adding modern infotainment and safety updates.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $45,066 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $46,864 CAD average.
• It is a reliability-first choice with a reputation for being utterly bulletproof.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $46,996 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $46,864 CAD average.
• It brings a full redesign with updates in almost every area.

The bottom line: If you want the proven second-generation Tundra with updated tech and safety, the 2021 is the balanced pick. If price matters most, the 2020 can save you money; if you want a full redesign, the 2022 is the better long-term alternative.

The F-150 is the more efficient and more widely available truck, while the Tundra leans on stronger owner satisfaction and a more straightforward, proven formula.
