Used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 for SaleNationwide

How much does the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 15.77% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 677 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 earns a 4.62/5 user rating and a 5.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 7/10 across Performance and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, spacious interior, and strong performance, especially with the diesel engine options and the smooth-shifting 10-speed transmission. That lines up with the Silverado’s appeal as a practical full-size pickup with broad capability and everyday comfort. At the same time, the truck’s loyal following and strong sales suggest many buyers still see real value in what it offers.

With 32.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck people tend to trust over time, with repeated praise for its comfortable ride, strong performance, and diesel powertrain options. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on it for regular use, especially if you value a full-size truck that feels familiar and capable.

The expert assessment also describes it as a fundamentally sound truck, which supports the idea that it has a solid long-term foundation even if it needs more attention to detail. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about basic toughness and more about whether the specific truck has been maintained well and whether you can live with its weaker interior execution.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Silverado comes in three cab styles, three bed lengths, and eight different trim levels. The LTZ test truck sat one rung below the top-of-the-line High Country, and the cabin was criticised for looking and feeling dated, with glossy plastic, large panel joints, inelegant control panels, and small infotainment screens. If you want a more upscale feel, pay close attention to higher trims and packages.
• Powertrain: You can choose from six different engines, including the available 3.0-litre inline-six turbodiesel and the 6.2-litre Ecotec3 V8. The Duramax diesel is praised for smooth, seamless acceleration, strong torque, and excellent fuel efficiency, while the 6.2-litre V8 is the better choice if maximum towing capability matters most.
• Safety package: Chevrolet offers forward collision alert, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, automatic collision notification through connected services, and Teen Driver safety technology. Adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and a Safety Alert Seat are available, but stop-and-go capability and lane-centering assistance are not.
• Infotainment: The Silverado uses Chevrolet Infotainment System 3 with 7-inch and 8-inch screens. Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard, and the available 8-inch HD display adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, navigation, enhanced voice recognition, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The available Duramax turbodiesel returned 9.6 L/100 km in combined driving, and Natural Resources Canada rated it at 10.0 L/100 km combined.

Which 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country.

Here's the short version:

• WT: This is the work-focused starting point, and it makes sense if you want the Silverado’s core capability without paying for extra comfort or technology. It gets the basics, but the cabin and screen setup are part of the truck’s more utilitarian side.
• Custom: This trim adds a bit more everyday appeal while staying on the value end of the lineup. It suits you if you want a straightforward Silverado with a little more polish than the WT.
• Custom Trail Boss: Choose this if you want a more rugged-looking truck with off-road flavour built into the trim name and positioning. It is for buyers who want a tougher stance without moving all the way up the range.
• LT: This is the trim where the Silverado starts to feel more broadly equipped, and it is a sensible middle-ground choice for many shoppers. If you want the best balance of equipment and price, this is the trim to focus on first.
• RST: This trim leans into appearance and road-going appeal, making it a good fit if you want a more stylish Silverado without jumping to luxury pricing.
• LT Trail Boss: This is the better choice if you want the Trail Boss character with more equipment than the lower off-road-oriented trims. It should suit you if you want capability and a stronger feature set together.
• LTZ: The LTZ brings a more premium feel, including the fully featured infotainment setup in the test truck, but the cabin still falls short of true luxury polish. It is a strong pick if you want more comfort and tech, though not necessarily the best value.
• High Country: This is the top trim and the one to consider if you want the most upscale Silverado experience available in this model year.

The safety content notes that Chevrolet offers a broad set of driver-assistance features, but some items remain optional or unavailable depending on trim, including stop-and-go adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 677 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.77% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $35,424 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $35,424 CAD sits slightly below last year's $42,059 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Silverado has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilises. If you buy at the right price now and keep the truck in strong condition, you may be better positioned than someone who paid closer to last year’s average.

The current trend also shows that buyers are still willing to shop this model year, especially when the listing is priced competitively. Trucks with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 safe?

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 earns a Marginal rating from IIHS for front passenger protection in a small-overlap frontal crash, and it earns four-star ratings from NHTSA overall, with four-star frontal-impact results for the driver and front passenger.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevrolet includes forward collision alert, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, automatic collision notification through connected services, and Teen Driver safety technology. Adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and a Safety Alert Seat are available, but stop-and-go capability is not, and lane-centering assistance is not offered.

The weak IIHS headlight result is another caveat to keep in mind, especially if you do a lot of night driving on rural roads.

Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Brand loyalty is a major reason this truck has held onto strong sales, even though the expert assessment says it still needs greater attention to detail.

The bottom line: The 2021 Silverado 1500 makes sense if you want a used full-size truck with strong owner approval, broad powertrain choice, and a market that currently favours careful shoppers. If you are price-sensitive, the 2021 can be a smart buy when you find a well-equipped example below the average asking price, but if you want a much more modern cabin and stronger overall refinement, a nearby newer year may be the better path.
